It would be nice to have a gallery here. Especially one that autosizes pics. There is one available for VB board. Having to manually resize pics is an old idea. Other than that I really like the site. In the meantime though any pics I put up will have to be linked. Plus I am not real comfortable having a third party site sizing my Marijuana pics. It is still illegal where I live

You can set your camera to take pics in different formats and size. Most anyway.

We prefer that you DON'T link your pictures to another server from this one. Every member going back and forth, back and forth to your pics and back to the site, increases the chances of something nasty coming back to this site from another if it's hacked.

Please just resize them.

If you use MS Windows, the Windows Picture Manager makes adjusting the compression easy.

Let me know if you need help doing this.

We had a gallery here once and it caused a lot of problems on the server. MarP pays for everything on this site, out of his own pocket. Repairing a server costs a lot of money. Attaching the pics to your own post is by far the best method to use with this software.

The back ,and forth also helps you pick up new members as well. Lets face it if a virus is going to happen there are many ways that it can find you. Hopefully the webmaster is keeping up on his security updates. Have you had an attack before? I am curious. I have been a mod,and a member of several sites over the years,and to my knowledge nobody ever tripped on a linked pic. We do it all of the time at 420genetics. People from GK link their pics to 420, and vice versa along with PG,and HG420, PS,and others. It doesn't seem to be a big deal.
Uploading pics to more than one site is alot of extra work for me. Plus it opens up "MY" computer to that much more of a security breach. Please understand that some of us belong to more than one forum,and have gallery's on more than one forum that we would love to share with people. In as safe a manner as possible for us.

The possibility of adding a gallery to the site is being looked into. MarP, the owner of the site, is discussing it with all of us Mods. We'll let you know what we decide as soon as we do decide.

Thanks to all of you for helping us make this an even better site. So far, we've been able to keep the site with no cost to the members, and never a single advertisement flashing in any ones face.

The simple fact is, bandwidth costs money. The more you want in "chunks", the more it costs.

MarP absorbs the entire cost of the site, and it's host, out of his own pocket.

If we keep packing on the members, and the usage keeps increasing, even without a gallery, the site will eventually cost more than it does now.

MarP is one awesome dude, and has made this site what it is today. His direction and the Mods overseeing, keep it attractive to new members.

Software is being reviewed for use as a gallery, but no decision has been made.

I do have a question for you. What would you put onto a gallery that you can't place into any post you make? Each post is allowed 8 photos. To place the photos into a gallery AND into posts seems redundant as well as using a heck of a lot of hard drive and bandwidth. Each month, the bandwidth used has to be paid for. More bandwidth, more money. Currently, MarP is fronting everything from his own money. The last gallery we had was full of pics that were duplicates of the very pics that were already in posts.

Please try to explain how a gallery is an advantage, considering the extra bandwidth that would be used each time it was accessed.

#1 Its a long term type deal Stoney. Members that start a gallery are likely to stick around because they have a whole catalog of pics here (In theory anyway).

#2 The Vb gallery allows you to upload ,and resize pics automatically, no thrid party resizing.

All of file types that are allowed to be uploaded are listed in the upload window you see each time you upload anything.

No motion formats are allowed. They use way too much bandwidth.

For now, we'll all have to enjoy the site as it is. I know that MarP and the Mods are all looking for cool addons, but none have been found yet that aren't a risk or too expensive to run.

I'm a programmer. I graduated from hacking into real computer work. I know exactly how easily a video can be hacked with the addition of unintended code. The execution of the code can be triggered in about a million ways. Having links to video files from this server to another server is an unneeded risk and having them virus scanned and available from this site would add additional cost to running this site.

MarP is running this site out of his own pocket. No ads. No fees.

I have yet to understand what exactly someone would be applying motion video to in regards to growing marijuana. Kinda sounds like watching the grass grow....hahahhaahhaa

No video linking please. The risk factor just isn't worth it. If you have friends here that like your description of the video, then send them a link to it in their private messages.

Thanks man. We all need to think about the security of this site as well as just enjoying it. If a virus slammed the site down for a week, it would be a drag.

"IMHO".. it would be in the best interest of everyone here, if "all" inks were simply typed or c/p into the forum, without the redirect tags.
.."IF" anyone interested wanted to view the link, they simply c/p it into a new browser tab/window.

"THAT" would eliminate the "tracks" leading back to here, AND eliminate the risk of imported problems.

What exactly would "Hits" do for us? We have no ads.

A huge reservoir of duplicate photos would be just that. A bunch of duplicate photos.

Each post can contain as many as 8 photos.

We really aren't a photo gallery. We're a site that is dedicated to the discussion of growing marijuana and helping established growers and those who wish to grow.

The photos that can be added to each post are a great help in accomplishing this end.

How would you feel about a gallery that had advertisements pasted all over it like Youtube? That would pay for itself and perhaps generate some income for MarP if it was actually popular. Ads, popups, cookies, these are the things that MarP has avoided for all this time.

We would love to do anything that anyone suggested, but the cost of doing so, and the toll it would take on the site speed is a relational factor that can't be ignored. More bandwidth resolves those problems, but that extra bandwidth costs money.

MarP is already paying for this entire site out of his own pocket with no reimbursement.

MarP, as well as all of the Mod's here have tried to make this FREE site as comfortable and enjoyable to everyone as possible.

I don't think anyone here really wants to see advertisements plastered all over the site and the sure way to destroy the place would be to try to charge people to use it.

If you can think of an alternative to these two methods that would pay for the additional bandwidth, please let us know. Keep in mind that any sub-site that had the gallery in it would have to be payed for in advance. If we made just the gallery a "pay-as-you-go" type site, or had it covered in ads, it's usage would determine it's income.

That usage would only pay MarP back for the money he would have to pull from his pocket initially.

I really don't think a Gallery would result in enough traffic to pay anything very good. That type of a change would depend on MarP's willingness to come up with even more money than he already has, to run this FREE site.

I have been working the last few days to add a gallery to the forum and it is ready for a beta test. If you guys could take some time to test it out and let me know what you think then that would help me much.
