BIG clones from plants?

Theres no problem with say... chopping the top 2 feet off of a 4 foot tall mother and treating it like any other clone, would there be?

I would have to say that that would violate the 1/3 rule about cuttings. If you take more than 1/3 of the mother for clones, you will probably kill the mother.
The clones should be fine though.
