Toping/Cutting ... whatever U wanna call it

ok so i just have a question.. ive seen a few threads about toping and cutting.. but i cant really understand what everyone is talking about.. so first if anyone knows a place where there are pix of someone toping a plant that explains it.. id aprecheate it...

Second... im looking at my plants today and think to myself..... this has a branch comimg off of it that just goes out to a leaf... then rite above that is a branch that goes up and has alternating nodes... now im not sure cuz im new at this... but i think that the branch with the alternating nodes is the only one that will produce bud???? rite... so .. why dont i just snip off all the branches that just go out to one big leaf?? will this hurt the plant?? is that just compleetly stupid and i dont know it?? the reason why i think it would be better is it will get these BIG leafs out of the way and let more light get to the branches with the alternating nodes... so can U guys could help me out with this b4 i fuc..... mess up my plants... Thanks alot

Thanks alotOK first off do not and i repeat do not cut off any leaves or branches on your plant as it all produces bud not just one branch. As far as topping goes that's only done if ya wanna make your plant short and bushy. I will find ya a link to topping and post it up for ya. ;)

Ok...first off (and this is very important) DO NOT cut off a leaf growing off the stalk of the plant. that leaf is a solar panal in the making, it's called a fan leaf. That leaf will be the light receptor for your plant. Buds do not, repeat..DO NOT..draw in the needed amount of light!! that is done through the fan leaves..Also if your a first time grower, I would suggest not doing any trimming at all or pick one or two plants to trim on only. Also remember the 30% rule, do not take more than 30% of the plants matter at any one time. It's the same principle in breakers accept the opposit...allways 30% breaker use open (20 amp breaker should draw no more than 14 amps to be safe, plants should never be trimmed more than 30% at any time.) 70/30 on breakers and 30/70 on trimming...good rule of thumb!!
