When we take clones we make sure the cutting is atleast 4 inches long. We have never cloned in water only soil using Hick's method. Takes about 7 to 14 days to root. Here is a link if ya wanna check it out. ;) http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2441

hicks gotthe knowledge, i aint got the money. when i took a horticulture class at my old HS we used rooting harmone nonstop and when we did run out it was too expensive to replace. i dont have much money i just wanted to know if water was an option, thats how i cloned tomatoe branchs.

I make a 45 degree cut about 1/2" down from the nodes. But I also cut about 3/4" straight down the stem. It opens up the complete interior to everything. I got this from Jorge's Bible. I have only cloned about 30 clones so far...but I am 100% also...easy to say with only 30.

I think if you get the interior of the stem exposed however you do it that will help with propagation.

When spliting like that, does that give you a better chance of not getting an air bubble in the stem?

Yes it help with embolisms a lot. I should have mentioned I use Olivia's rooting gel too, and an aero-cloner.

That's actually a copy and paste of an old post I have on another board since then I have cloned about 60-70 clones still with no failures although about 6 or seven have taken weeks to root. But those went on to be nice grows.

Follow the link below if you want clones the right way. I built it and I get roots 1 week from the time I take the cuttings.

I just bought a bottle of "Take Root", it was under $5 "Rootone" was right beside it for the same money. Though a rooting hormne is NOT a requirement for clones, odds are, you are going to need to purchas something for a grow to succeed.
It quite likley, it will cost more than $5, too. Weed can be grown cheap, but it cannot be grown for free.
