Hi all

My room is too hot - it sits at 78 - 85 and I want to cool it down..

It is a sealed room so the only way I can put an AC in is to keep the entire unit in the room which doesnt seem to work - I ve tried an oscillating fan - no good either.

Any adivce?

Thanks

Well, I recently have done some extensive research on this. The best option is to get a cooling unit.

surely adding more fans would work um might be a pain n the butt but maybe putting a lil tub with ice cubes n it but yeah that would proberly bring down temps for a certain amount of time

What kinda of circulation do you have... you could try adding another air intake and another exhaust to help more the air faster... should drop the temp.. if your taking in air thats colder

That is the key... If the intake air is cool enough. During the day I am seeing temps around 90. No matter what your air exchange numbers are, 90* air will not cool anything to an acceptable growing temp for Cannabis.

And if you were to add more fans, all that would accomplish is... well you would be circulating hot air.

I say just get a few bags of ice delivered 6 times when your lights are on and spread them throughout your grow area. ;).

My whole grow is in the process of being moved outside because I can't deal with the crazy amounts of heat plus the heat from over 1,000 Watts of T5s.

i couldnt see the link since im on my cell phone but i had an idea when i was going thru the same problems in my garage. before i moved them inside. but i was thinking of buyng a mini fridge and put the exhaust from the room into the fridge part and the intake from the room in the freezer area, i would think that would bring a constant amount of cooler air and at the same time cool the hotter air.. just an idea i had..

All i know is my house is air conditioned.. so if i need colder air.. i just adjust my dial.. and the air gets colder... it might be why my humidity is down.... im still sitting between 75-85 myself...... but it would suggest making your air intake colder to bring the room down.....

The Room has one ventialtion grid.

I could always cut another and add another fan - the plants dont seem to be suffering yet - but Im concerned about when i hit bud cycle of the smell as I just keep the door wide open to keep the cooler air circulating - my entire house is gonna smell. the 1000HPS - she runs pretty hot.

Ive gotta figure out a solution of some sort - the ice might work - but pretty tedious having to load in Ice 6 times a dayf or the next few months.

If Im below 85 - am I good? or is that pushing the wire?

im read that between 75 and 85 is good... so id want to be in the middle...... If you add another exhaust you can try and filter some of the smell out... but if you can use air circulation to cool your room.. that will grow better plants then bringin in ice that is basically useless to your plants... more air is a key.. or so i have read..

Putting ice cubes in the room is pointless - sorry to be so abrupt, but in a larger room with 1000 watts that isn't going to do anything. Also, the fridge idea is a no go also. THe best way to cool a sealed room is to use a window air conditioner. Even if you use Co2 it will not let much Co2 leak as most air conditioners have a setting for circulating just the rooms air and not the outside air. Make sure it's on this setting and you should be fine. You could also place the air conditioner in the grow room wall, and then vent the heat to the other side of the room. This way you will not need to place the air conditioner out a window - if your worried about that sort of thing. I have done both and this has worked great. Just make sure you get the largest air conditioner you can afford. I cooled a 15 by 15 foot room with 4 - 1000 watt HPS with a 12000 btu system. Hope this helps and I hope I didn't insult anyones idea's - I've just been there before and nothing has worked other than what I have mentioned. Also, stay away from the moveable type air conditioners with one vent or two. THese I have not personally tried but have only heard bad things about them. Good luck and hope this helps!

If yopu qalready have a vent from the ac in there you can add a fan that they use in mobile homes for the vent units, it pulls more cold air from the vent, that should help if you already have 1 vent in there.

yeah, the fan should drag the air in from outside via the vent.

solution to too hot in the box.
get a cooler. igloo type! cut 4 inch holes in each side dead center. run a 4 inch thin tin flex duct tube through the cooler. one end should stick out just enough to screen cover. the other end into your box with a small fan pulling the air through the cooler. fill the cooler with ice. below and all around the tube going through the cooler. fill to top of cooler. this will last about three days if you don't open the cooler. if you have access to dry ice this is great! dry ice will able you to poke holes in the tube going through the cooler drawing in Co2 which is excellent for veg and flowering.
i had the same problem and got this information right here at the forum. works great. keep cooler out of the sun if possible. sunning the cooler will cut ice time down to almost half. good luck.

Those temps are optimal ... you really dont' have to worry about temps till the 90's imo.. but the lower the room temps the lower you can get that light also...anyways you dont' have anything to worry about.
