Is it true that your plants can tolerate higher air temps (80F-85F) as long as the rootzone and nute sol temps are perfect 72F/68F?

Yes, it is. However, it moves in opposite directions.
75 F is best for both.
If it moves to 80, you can counter it by reducing your reservoir temp to 70, the same distance the other way.
If it's 85 F above ground, then move your reservoir temp to 65 F.
That's as far as you want to take it however. Anything below 65 F will cause the roots to grow less and it will change the absorption rate of the nutrients.
