Am I the only person who sees the [ img ] tag as a security threat? couldn't leo post a link up to an image from his website, with tracking turned on, then just check his site traffic and every time that picture was viewed without any prior history on that website, it would be pretty obvious where he got the link... And what scares me, is you don't have to click anything except the thread....

thats one of the reasons..im pretty sure..that you can only post pictures that you uploaded to THIS site. example..try and link a photobucket picture here..it will be gone in minutes

I know, but noone ever takes down the threads with images embedded in them. It scares me. Because that's the case where you don't even know where the link came from. It's pretty obvious that if a pic is from photobucket it's probably safe. I guess some people around here might see me as a conspiracy theorist. :p

Pretty sure both of those have embedded images to MP, but that's what it pretty much looks like.

their server is in amsterdam anyway, any photos on this server, in the website is locked away in a green country.
I'm not paranoid at all. except maybe if an official was pretending to get your personal info.
but if you don't tell them, then there shouldn't be a problem, and hopefully law enforcement around the globe don't even know about this site.

You're right about this..

took me a bit of brainstorming to understand the threat here.. so I'll assume I'm not the only one:

I could host my own website with my computer.. say bubby.com

I could post that link here and there, hoping some of you would click it..

once you go to bubby.com, your IP has to be sent to me because our computers have to communicate with each other

Since this forum allows pictures from other sites to be hosted..
you could click on a thread, which I filled with pictures hosted from bubby.com, and I'd get your IP without you having to click any link

Bubby is exactly right except that it shows traffic to each individual page on the entire site including the pictures. Now if a persons IP has been logged as viewing the pictures without viewing the rest of the site they must have got the link from somewhere. Plus LEO could make a website without telling anybody except the people here on MP.

If it is a picture link I will not click on it......I mean.....how hard is...realy to upload your photos here?

Leave them alone unless they are shown on the thread. This is a loophole for spamers too!

Go to my grow and you will see all that I have done....No links to other sites.....Besides I do believe that is against MP rules (Links to other sites).
