i got a big problem with catapillars invading my buds and eating them up! They look very dark and small(approx.1/4" long) and I see them on the end of the buds. If I dont get them they will burrow into the bud and eat my buds up.When I find them inside the bud, the worms are usually green by then. I have caught about thirty in the last week and they are devastating my buds can anyone help on what I can do? If not I am already starting to harvest and cuttin my losses! Thanx

I wouldnt spray a lot of pesticides on your buds . As close as they are to ripe it will still be in your plant at harvest. Try picking off as many as you can. At night with a flash light they show up great and will be on the outsides eating in the dark. If you have to, use a teaspoon of dawn dishwashing liquid and a teaspoon of franks hotsauce in a half gallon of water and spray with a spray bottle just spraying where they are eating your plant. Not all over it. If your buds are good size you might be better off haversting before they eat your plant. They want eat a dry plant.

I uploaded a photo of my Purple Erkle. I also have caterpillars. Thanks for the post, I'll go out tonight with a flashlight. During the day, I am finding some, but I'm sure there are many more, hiding. Can you tell from the photo how much longer these have to go?

I went ahead and harvested one that was real close. The other has a week or so to go. Now, I am finding lots of caterpillars on it, too. Not enough room in my drying room for two, anyway. I'll just keep picking away at them. If they were just eating the leaves, it wouldn't be so bad, but they are burrowing into the buds and eating them. You have to dig through the buds to find them. :hairpull: A real drag, but a necessary one.

I use Dipel (sp) to stop these worms from eating my cabbage. It's not toxic for humans to ingest, but I've never tried to smoke it. It probably would have been better as a preventive measure.
