View Full Version : Boycotting "Thanks"

From this day forward i will be fighting the negativity that has consistently been eating away at the MP forum.
IN MY OPINION the "Thanks" is the culprit.
members here are seeking validation in both positive and negative posts to threads by means of "Thanks".
I will be resorting to POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT only and using the original method. ( the scale icon in the bottom left) So no hard feelings, if you really care about your rep and you find that great posts are recieving "Thanks" by others and yet you don't get "Thanks" by me. You will get rep though when it allows me to spread it.
This was a happy place with LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG happy threads till that damn "thanks" showed up.
call me crazy, but this has been a different place since people started earnign rep not based on content or help, but by supporting similar interpretations of posts. Negative or Positive.
"Thanks" should be removed on this forum, and so should the level of policing it has brought with it.

OK
I put some thought into it, and my impression of the "Thanks" was to give an aknowledgement to an earlier post. Instead of using more time and crowd up a thread, a "Thanks" is just a quick way to say thanks for the reply. I really don't even think of the rep side to it. I kinda do like to use the "Thanks".
I could see if someone is trying to get easy rep by the "Thanks", it could cause ill feelings by others.......
I would rather get rep by my accurate replies, and grows chocked up on my belt..........That is what I understood was done by the scale to the left.
I tell ya, I have said and got a lot of "thanks", but my color bars haven't budged in forever. Don't really understand about the points either......
But, I'm too busy having fun in the garden to give a rats arse how many bars I got.........So I guess it don't matter to me. But I still do like to "Thanks"..........
Outa here again...........:bolt:
PB:)
marp said he set that up for same as rep(10 points)..... maybe it's not working right?
kinda keeps the threads clean thats fer sure...
would rather have a thanks for your post than rep my self but when it comes down to it a persons post speak's for It's self heh :hubba:

PB....
i couldn't agree with you more. I don't care about my rep either and have recieved both positive and negative rep for my candidness and stubborness. One should stand behind their beliefs
HOWEVER
many threads have gone south that were perfectly uplifting good posts. arguments have ensued. i truly believe that a negative post that is justified with a "thanks" becomes an illness to a positive thread and its quick to spiral down from there.
This was not happening a few months back before the advent of the "Thanks".
sometimes small overwhelmingly positive changes can have unforseen negative effects. the forum administrator will have to investigate whether or not its an overall improvement.
I can tell you this. i got in a pissing match a while back and it resulted in negative rep. The rep you get or lose via the scale seems to have DRAMATICAL effect on the bars. I took a HUGE hit on negative rep. doesnt' concern me as i'm not here to earn rep. i'm here to learn and help. The "thanks" once given seems to not allow you to then give rep by the scale key. It also seems to be knowwhere near as valuable if (if you correlate value with it) compared to the other.
Occasionally ill want to hit someone with REP with the scale only to find out i had just hit the "thanks" in a different thread. so i can't give it again.
After evaluating over the last couple months.....i see no value in the "Thanks" and choose to use the original method as it is more rewarding and used much more sparingly.
am i making any sense???????????
Sorry if i'm not.....but hey i try
Now....its time to get hiiiiiiiiiiiigh so hiiiiiiiiiiigh :headbang2:

maybe negative rep takes away far more than positive reP gives ??????

Well we enjoy using the THANKS option. :aok:
Maybe I am reading between the lines to much, but are you really upset at the negative rep you earned, or the thanks? You mention the negative rep frequently in your last couple posts.
I like the thanks option, and I am of the opinion that it helps keep threads positive.
