***** roots readily; although if you have access to a Willow tree, one or two short twigs in the water may speed up the rooting process.

Does willow trees have something I'm not aware of that speeds up rooting, or a chemical or hormone aiding growing?

It's refering to a plant that doesnt produce viable seeds, and readily roots without rooting hormone. I forget he name of this process, but any section of stem will grow roots once it hits the ground.

Willow branches (new ones preferably) are known to be a good "home made rooting agent. I'm not sure what chemical process causes it, but I know it's often used.
