I have noticed a new trend here and the mods and i are becoming concerned. We "relaxed" some on the editting. But we will have to start editting posts again if this rule (below) isn't respected. You can word things without saying the F-word or other vulgarities. We don't mind the occassional (pain in the azz) or something, but keep it at PG rating...A true sign of intellegence is NOT having to use those words in general conversation IMO.
We don't like to have to edit posts so please respect this.

Thank you.

1. This is the most simple of rules. There are filters in place to block the usage of many words that are considered to be unacceptable in polite conversation. If you notice that a word you've typed is replaced by asterisks, then it is one of these words. Please reconstruct your post to reflect what you're trying to say, but without the word that was blocked. Adding spaces or other characters to the filtered word is not acceptable here. If you attempt to bypass the filter by using any means, it's a direct act against the rules of this site. The Moderators will generally only delete the word itself from your post. However, repeated occurrences of this type may cause more severe reaction by the Moderators who are entrusted to keep the peace here.

Also let me remind NEW members...Flaming will not be tolerated. PERIOD. If you disagree with something do it in a CIVIL MANNER!!!!

ALL RULES APPLY TO THE NEW SHOUTBOX AS WELL!!!!

what does flaming mean ?

Hey tom-tom. If I may join the discussion............

Flaming is outright attacking a poster and being very rude to them. It usually leads to posters taking sides and everything gets bent out of shape.

Ususally starts by someone's feelings getting hurt, then it escalates into a mess and the thread getting closed, and a member or two getting banned from the site.

We're here to help each other grow weed and share our gardens. Not fight.

Later dude.

Hey Mods - There is a filter for the word "s u c k s" on this site. We are constantly talking about ventilation here and that word is very common.

Ex: "My exhaust fan ***** the air out of my growbox."

Is the filter in place because of the other use of the word?

Ex: My halogen lamp ***** because it gets too hot, and doesn't grow my plant right."

What's the scoop? I'm game for whatever you mods decide, but I'm not insulted by the wording of the latter example IMHO.

I have to type sux, or suks when I discuss ventilation issues with someone, and that is against the rules, according to the rules quote at the top of this thread..........

I would have PM'd this question, but I think others may feel the same......

Basically what we were seeing was the use of the f word more and more but spaced apart letters to avoid the filter, also seen the C word (you know the one women hate).
And S word, but if something is used in the right context and no other word could possibly be used correctly then you have to do it.
Like if we have some of our british members saying they smoked a fag with weed in it...we know they are talking about a ciggerette. So the mods will take this into account.
Don't worry aero, you been here long enough to know whats cool and whats not ;)

I believe it to be some peoples upbringing or fosterage that can also have a giant impact on the persons speech, not just there intelligence. Just because they swear allot doesn't necessarily mean they aren't intelligent, it could be second nature to them because of the surrounding environment. I know a few people like this, born and raised on the 'darker' side of town they care not what comes out of there mouths because every one around them has been using those words naturally without scolding or remorse, neighbors, friends, relatives? Other ghetto bangers hahaha.. well you fellas get what i mean.. either way, one of my buddies is like this and listens to terrible sounding hip-hop all day long but he is a bit like Einstein when it comes to intelligence.

We just like this community to have a little class.

I see many folks mention about how this group is one of the best out there. I think everything we do contributes to that, including watching the language.

We want to show folks that we can be classy without being those awful terrible, disrespectful potheads everyone else seems to think the words pot heads mean...:p

Personally I like the fact that people moderate their language on here. I agree with Wiseman and GanjaGreg, we are all adults, this is a drug forum, and rude words shouldn't be that shocking. However the reason I like the moderation is becuase I come here to get away from the puke that the world is constantly spewing at me anyway. I know when I sit down here to read, and chat, and pull a fat toke that all is right in my world. It's actually a shame that we have to police this forum as much as the Mod's do, but thanks to the few of them, so many of us can come here and just chill. If this were to go to a vote I'm in the keep it clean kamp...k.i.c.k

Here's a very simple way of thinking about the use of *foul* language on a public site:

Use the big world-wide newspapers for an example. You'll not find a single world class newspaper that allows the use of any language that's considered *foul* in most civilized countries.

The reason isn't that it is against the morals of the publisher or editors, it's an attempt to provide an environment for it's readers that isn't annoying or irritating to any large group of it's readers. It's meant to keep down friction and avoid insult, intended or not.

The rules here on this site are very similar. There are many thousands of members here, active or not, and they represent groups of people from a lot of different countries around the globe.

The rule on cussing isn't to place a moral restriction on anyone, it's to avoid the possibility of insult to those who may be insulted by the use of what they consider to be foul language.

There isn't anyone who can't phrase a statement without the use of foul language. It's easy. Just pretend you are submitting your post to the London Times or the Washington Post and you REALLY want them to print it. In that case, you wouldn't put any questionable language in your post, because you KNOW they wouldn't print it then.

Everyone can do the same here. There ARE people here who are insulted by the use of foul language.

One reason I like this site so much is because of the professionalism. It really isnt necessary to swear all the time; I admit I am guilty of it when I get fired up about something. I think that when we refrain from using foul language we are more apt to work our differences in opinion out. I have learned ALOT in a short period of time from this site. It is very inviting and friendly; I don't see bickering or drama very often at all here. Good job Mods, good job Members, let's keep growing!!!

We allow some stuff like PITA or suc-k...we will let things like that go...but the main ones are some used by members that are without a doubt vulgar and no reason to use those words. Everyone knows which ones.
I myself use PITA (pain in the rear) or the vent is suc-king out the air.

Thorn
02-11-2008, 07:09 PM
Did anyone explain why suc-k isn't allowed? 'cause it was so annoying the other day reading a thread and trying to work out all the ****s.

People do speak in their own way, depending on class, upbringing and so on. Look at Gorden Ramsey - I have so much respect for him because he says it how it is. Although at the same time I do beleive that he sometimes doesn't need to say the F word all that much. People are just people, personally I don't have a problem with any swearing as long as its not used in a nasty fashion.

But must agree with all the people here that say its a drug forum, therefore for adults. But its not my choice, simple as.

Peace.

Mutt

We have asked for suc-k to be taken off the filter, give some time to have this remedied.

Yea i see that. Suppose its a bit like the smoking ban (ciggies that is lol) in the UK..all the smokers are moaning about it, but its not fair to smoke in a public enclosed space for the non-smokers who don't want to breath it in.

I find it interesting that some people think that because a person is an "Adult", that they want to read, or expect to read foul language.

Being adult means that you have the maturity to NOT use inappropriate language in a crowd of people you've never met and don't know.

I've gotten to know about 20 people on this group. I mean really know them and their likes and dislikes.

That means that 8,686 people who are members, active or not, are people I don't know.

That said, I've learned to respect people who I don't know, and I don't trash talk in front of them because I don't want to insult them.

I've learned that there is nothing I need to say that can't be said completely and with full understanding, without the use of foul language.

It really is that simple.

Respect for others.

I have always been a bit articulate,

I enjoy talking with folks a lot, I worked as a tour guide at a point in my life, and I can assure you that no person that I have ever met really enjoyed hearing a foul mouth. No person of the opposite sex was ever impressed by my using foul language either.

Our use of the english language has been degrading for a long time now. I can remember the words I used to win over my wife, and none of them involved foul language period. She would have dumped me flat. Try to impress a college professor with a paragraph that includes all the bad words you can come up with. Then judge if this is really something good or poor.
Bad habit if you ask me.

We should all try to exercise our brain, and replace the foul words with ones that are articulate and thought provoking.

Give me a four letter word, ending with K, that means intercoarse, = TALK.

Did I catch you ?
