Have 8 seedlings in a low (30%ish) humidity environment. They are getting blasted by a 400w metal halide. Temps sittin pretty 73-81, depending on where I have the light/fans - I'm still tweaking it all hourly lol.. :D
Anywho, the top soil is bone dry but just 1/2" down it's semi moist.. Should I keep the top nice and moist or let it dry out and water all at once?
grow journal coming after I get a camera for christmas :hubba:
thought of another question.. Temps at 81-2 and light 14-15" away vs. 20" away and 73 ?? The ambient temp in the room just above the light is roughly 72, pretty steady.. The temp according to the probe at plant level is the hard thing to make stable.

If you can keep the top soil dry while maintining the middle moist that is good, it will help stop any critters that could reside on the moist soil, some people use sand on the top of their oil for that purpose..

The soil should be almost completely dry before waterings.Cannabis dosent like "wet feet"

you could eaily grow eight plants under a light from high tech garden supply. its a 110 watt veg light. that is 12 by 24 inches. then heat wuold not be an issue. but i would get the temp down. i grow in arround 65 75 degrees. the slightly lower temp brings out the color in the stems. if you sold your halide you could probably get three or four of 110 watters. i think halides have lost thier place in vegetative growth. personal preferance i guess.

I considered what you are reccomending however the amount of light I want is far more than that. I understand the lumens per sq foot rule, I am a firm believer that extra light will benefit me alot. Also that would be more expensive and complicated to set up in comparison to my light - that and I plant to flower under 60,000 lumens of HPS..... in the same fixture. =/
