LED lights. The future???

Hello all.

New member here. Forgive any transgressions of the rules (and please let me know about them):D

I currently have a growroom but due to a change of location I need to move it. I am reading all sorts of articles claiming that LED grow lights are here and working. I notice these are now readily available on ebay although they are still a little expensive.

I am wondering if I should take the plunge and change to LED lighting. A few questions if any of you can help.

1. Has anyone actualy used LED lighting to produce smokable weed?

2. Can these lights be used for all stages of growth?

3. I read that only red and blue LED's are necessary for growth/flowering but that the plants "turn black". Does this mean they actually turn black or simply that they look black under purple light?

4. Are LED arrays available cheaper than the above on ebay?

If I get a good feeling from your responses and decide to change I will keep you informed of my progress.

idk i know i heard leds are the bomb and i believe the expierienced growers who have told me that but i just love hps lights i mean keep it oldschool boys

I asked the same question not too long ago. AlienBait is quite knowledgable as well as a few others here. No one was sucessfully flowered with leds. I'm planning to do a grow journal using autoflower species and LEDS. Experiment with it and tell everyone about it.

Not those lights, but High Times gave a good review of the LEDUFO, but I would wait on buying that until I see a couple others successfully flower with it.

Yes, it was smokable, but I got much more weight with the HPS.

2. Can these lights be used for all stages of growth?
I am going to say NO. The LEDs work pretty well for vegging, but for flowering, I believe you need more than just red and blue lights (contrary to what the manufacturers say).

The plants do not turn black. They just look black under the red/blue light.

If you really want to buy some LEDs and grow with them, don't expect to get much yield. You would do much better with a HPS. You will probably be able to veg a couple of plants with LEDs, but I would stay away from flowering with them.

Thanks for all the info. Looks as though we are not there yet for growing good quantities of bud with these lights. I think I may get some for the veg stage though.
