You can do it when your lights are normally on.

Topping and LST are methods that enable you to direct your plant to alter it's growth in a manner that makes better use of restricted space or height.

Any time after the plant reaches sexual maturity is a good time. Be careful to prune only a little at a time. No more than one third of the tops should be pruned at once to avoid putting the plant in shock. With LST, take it nice and slow and just move the stems a little each day. That will prevent breakage and shock.
