Hello guys..

today when i opend my growing closet i noticed a small black flying bug that hardly i saw.. i found 2 of them and killed them with a pen..

some of my leaves looks like they'v been aten from the edges.. so i was thinking this is because of the bugs??

now only a few leaves have a bad edges.. the whole plants look healthy and fine..

my question here.. is those bugs could be a big (killer) problem in the future?? now i dont see no bugs but i dont know maybe the bugs have some eggs around or something??

what can i do to avoid thet problem??

Thanks

Hello red_ss,

Some critters will just flat out chow your grow, and I do mean fast too. It is always good to grab something to sit on, and have a heart to heart with the babies. Look them over real good. Look under leaves, look in the crotch of the branches, also look around the base, and obviousily the tops. The yellow sticky cards are helpful, as is a small flat stone, or better a small flat piece of wood that is not oak. Place the flat object near the edge of the container, and look under it now and again. Some critters like to hide under things. I don't kill or other wise destroy a critter right away unless I am certain what it is. The reason for this is a squished bug is hard to identify. LOL See if you can identify it then you might also figuere out how it came to be in with your girls. It's just a matter of playing Sherlock and figuering it out.
I am serious about critters that will chow plants. Some will bore right into the stalk and lay eggs that hatch out as hungry larvae. Then just kiss your sweetheart goodbye.

Remember that part,
About not using Oak ? I found out bouquet, (French pronounced bow-qoo), years ago that plants will have nothing to do with an oak tree, that is because an oak puts out a chemical attack on other plants like would be vines that might climb, and do it harm. So it kills pretty good. basically any plants that are too near it. The chemical can remain in the wood and leech out.

No, he was saying that it could kill your plants.

I forgot about that little tidbit about oak. Thanks for the reminder Kahuna! :joint:

Here is another great wood tree, that can really cause some hurt to the growth of surrounding plants. Black Walnut puts out chemicals that hinder the growth of plants, I presume that this is so that there is little competition in the growing area.
If you guys plan planting outdoors keep this in mind.

I use hot shot traps they put a chemical in the air that kills spider mites and other bugs and they have no smell.

you can by them at most deparment stores

use hot shot traps they put a chemical in the air that kills spider mites and other bugs and they have no smell.

but those same "chemicals"/poisons are being emitted onto the plants, that you intend to consume.
