I know everyone hates repeat questions so I will form this as a statement and everyone or (anyone) who answers can give me thier opinion. This is my second grow and I feel that lights will make all the diffeence. I will put my exisiting 7 cfl's that are 42 watts each in a veg room that is 3 feet high, 16" wide and 29" deep. Right next to it I have my flower chamber and will flower 3 at time as i go. I will put in a 170 hps as this will fit perfectly and is listed at 16000 lumens. This room is almost the same size as the veg room. I know mh is said to be better(4 veg) but I think I have the right number of cfl's for a small room. Anyone care to respond??:D

as long as you have the right amount of lumes in them cfl's..(How many?)
Good luck

That's plenty of light (cfl) for that area. But, you will want to keep an eye on your temps. I have 5 42w cfl's in a larger area than yours and I have to keep my exhaust fan on 24/7 due to the raise in temps.
About the HPS, I would highly suggest more watts than the 170 that you are thinking of. If you are going to go HPS it will probably cost you just as much to get a 250w or about $10-$15 more for a 400w. Of, course you will have to keep an eye on your temps in here as well, either way you go.

I didn't say that it wouldn't work, I was just pointing out that you can "get more bang for your buck" and get a higher wattage for the same price.
Either way, you'll be getting nice nugs. :afroweed:

dont waste your money on a MH unless your ballast controls both and all you would have to to is buy the bulb. I vegged with cfl's then flower wit hps. I can assure you that the cfl's will save you $$ during that veg stage over the MH. Plus cfl's worked great for me. ..save lotsss $$.. id go with atleast a 250 if you where going to buy hps..

Every thing sounds good so far. IMO id go with the 250W HPS though as it will boost that lumen for the flower area. i do have one tiny concern, and that is with the CFLs that you have, and its with the color spectrum of them or K, do you know what it is rated? I have 3 CFLs that i used in an old cabinet grow box they were all the G.E. 42W (150W equivalent) soft white bulbs which are the ones you'd need to flower as the color is softer and has a bit more red in them. CFLs Chart (http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=43221&d=1199046098) will explain more. but if they are working for vegging then whats the old adage if its not broke don't fix it :D

:D Hps ballast with an Agromax or San Agro Hps bulb that contains 30% blue spectrum is the way to go!(IMHO)
You can use it start to finish, especially now that it has a blue spectrum in it! Plus it's more efficient. You will need to watch temp though.;)

thanks so much for so many reply's. I just foung htg garden store on the net. They have 170w lights. Everyone is correct that it wouldn't cost MUCH more to go 250. I will comfortably have room for 4 full ladies. I am getting excited as my room is in the finishiing stages. Even though I was forced to the garage it will be nice. All I did then was finish the entire garage. The heat from the lamps will keep my temp good I hope.

Id do a temp reading on the area used for growing with the lights off for a couple of hours and then with them on for a couple of hours so you get an idea of how much it may change.

according to the above cfl chart(thanks) I have mucho lumens for veg as my space is small on purpose. I did buy the 250hps and can't wait to flower. On my first grow I used the same cfl's to flower so I expect a jungle after I lst and top my plants. Do you make a true mother plant by flowering it all the way then putting it back in veg or what???
IMHO... a donor/mother is best, if never flowered, but kept in the vegetative state. IME, they are less susceptable to trying to flower under 'low-light' cloneing conditions and will root easier and faster.
