Ok I been rethinking of my heating problem alone with the elect. cost..
I know that some houses do come with built in pipes in the floors of cement and I am thinking of doing the same thing for my grow box because of were it at, but not use cement but run metal pipes as I have room to lay a floor over the top of them..
Run a Pool heater in a reservoir to keep the water 72 and maybe I can find a small pump to cirulate the water around..
I made a bottom starter room, & for a oil fill heater But due to water drip from the top floor when watering I took it out, scary to me .
This is just a idea..
I need to fix this for next year...

Have you thought about useing crushed stone as a deck material?
It acts as a heat sink which will help to maintain a more consistant temp.

What would be the cost on buying these materials?
got to go check out my local hardware store..

How many watts is the pool heater? you want to do this over just an electric heater?

Yo Ho Flyinghigh,
Sounds like your moving into the realm of over kill for a simple yet annoying problem. You want the warmth in there, and you are worried about dripping water onto your oil filled heater. That about right ?
Solution = Keep it simple = shallow catch pan with the right dimentions and a hole cut in a corner for a drain tube. Keep the shallow pan at a slight tilt for the runoff. and use this for the upper deck. The runoff can be directed to a small catch container.
If you are dead set on the pumps and pool heater then Grangers puts out teal pumps that can have very long lifetimes, and they are easy on the pocket book.
Hope this helps

I am just going around with the wife about the elect. bill and as I look it up on the net for the last few years my bill stayed under 40 bucks dueing the winter and sinceI start to grow my bill has jumped up to 78 $ and that almost 40 $ more a month and that with out the heater going.
I do have 2 grow going on right now and the shed grow is in veggie and almost ready for Flowering and due to the cold they r not growing BIG and staying short and I run my lights at nights.
and my other grow is in the house (400 HPS ).
My problem is how much does elect. can be used dayily with out being investication and right now that 21. percent a day.. So is this to much or what? do I need to cut down the useage?
As for drain buckets I am going to use those but I am looking for a big one to fit in the grow room and put a drain on that and putting a drain bucket for each plant would just make take up some of the room.. I guess I am just want as many plants in there at once because of finding males in there makes room,
I am glad to see the weather getting warmer dueing the day..!!;)

Your electric bill is nothing, def nothing to worry about.
The cost of running a heater, lights pumps and whatever is allways less than the bud produced so its allways a wise investment.
Just do what you have to for optimal grow conditions.
As for a 78 dollar bill its nothing to worry about.

My energy bill jumped a lot last month. My wife saw the bill jump and instantly blamed my garden. But, I looked at it carefully and our energy usage didn't change at all. The cost of gas went up, a lot.:holysheep:
You remember about 2 months ago, crude oil prices went up above $90/barrel. The stupid thing about this is that the gas that I pay for in my energy bill is natural gas and it is pumped locally (as far as I know). So, why would the cost of middle east crude oil affect the cost of local natural gas?

The same reason you would sell something you bought for $10 for $100 on eBay if that is the going price for the item :)
