I am using 6in rockwool cubes for the first time and was wondering how big of a plant they willl be able to support by themselves without hydroton. Also how many feeding times per 24 hrs? they are in their 3rd week of veg. I grow in a simple fill and drain/ ebb and flow system that is 3x3 with 5 plants.

hi cheeba its a bit hit and miss mate you will have to 1st flood until cubes are saturated and then allow to drain and see how long they last before they are nearly dry again.
this will give you some indication of amount of times to flood but do bear in mind as the plants get bigger they will also get thirstier thus needing more floods/feeds.
hope this helps ya dude

The whole point of an ebb and flow system is to get your roots to grow outside of the rockwool cube. The cube is there only to get the very first roots to grow through while the plant is tiny.
Your roots are supposed to grow through the rock wool and into the media. No light should be able to touch any of the roots.
I've used a one hour on, two hours off, 24/7 schedule for many, many years. It works great.

put your 6 inch cube in a 10 inch deep tub, fill the tub with hygroton completely covering the cube. (next time use 1 inch cubes, unless you are using the rockwool as your medium) this will support plants up to 4 ft without support.
I flood the tub every 2 hours for 20 minutes of the light cycle. that 6 inch cube will hold some water so I am not sure about your schedule. Rockwool also holds alot of air so I think every 2 hours for 20 minutes will be fine. the roots will grow out of the cube in less than a week. and you will need to put them in something, more rockwool, or hygroton, etc.
