Planting in the ground

I have a quick question. Im going to be plantin in the ground and i want to keep bugs out of my soil as much as possible. I came up with idea of digging a whole in the ground & coating it with tarp (with a few drainage wholes in the bottom). does this sound like a good idea?

no, think about rocks, bugs can be found under those and they are probably harder to get under than your tarp... just find a good bug spray and use it, you will be fine
