Ok... I ordered my ph down GH 1.5 tub yesterday and i doubt it will get here this week. My seedlings have already pretty all sprouted from jiffy pellets. I wanted to put them in my dwc's soon and turn the lights on but my ph is about 7.8. Is there anything i can get from the pool shop or walmart that will work... The fish stuff *****, I used a whole bottle just for one 12 gallon tub, and I have 3 18 gallon tubs to adjust. Is there something i can get in the mean time, what should i get? thanks

Well i bought some muriatic acid. "Muriatic acid as well as nitric acid could also be used to lower pH. The fumes of both are highly toxic." Read this from Nutrient Solutions For Greenhouse Vegetable Culture
Texas Agricultural Extension Service. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

I use the stuff made for swimming pools. The main ingredient is Sodium Bisulfate. It works great.
Don't use food stuff like vinegar or lemon juice in hydro. I doesn't last long and will cause slime to grow in your reservoir.
Is that Muriatic Acid in liquid form? Is it the stuff you get at the pool store? If so, then use VERY little. Without knowing the concentrations, it is hard to say how much to use. Try adding it 1 or 2 drops at a time to see what happens.

Yea it is in liquid form, and it was only 5 dollars for a gallon. Its for lowering the ph of a pool. Well i read another guy putting half distilled water and half muriatic acid and it worked for him. I was going to get the sodium bisulfate, but i read that its not good for plants, but people say all type of stuff so you know how that is. I am going to test it first of course, hopefully ill be ok.

Just go to walmart or a pet/fish store and get a PH down, try to get Nitric acid PH down, because it works better for hard water. they are only like 5 bucks or so and will hold you over until your order arrives.
Do you have any type of garden stores in your area?
Lemon juice will lower it but ive read that vinager is better to use. Hopes this helps :)

The reason that lemon juice and vinager are not good to use is because they are very erratic. They WILL lower the PH temporarily, and then cause it to spike. You could very well end up with a PH of around 8, in the morning.
Anything acidic will lower the PH, it is more about what is best to use to lower the PH, that will be stable and will not harm the plants delicate roots.

There is no garden stores around here that carry hydro stuff, it *****!! Ive had to order almost everything so far. So muriatic acid is not a good idea? I had bought a ph down from petsmart and I used the entire bottle for a 12 gallon resorvoir for one adjustment, after that i used vinegar (practice bagseed) and it works, but i really didnt want to use it for my little widows. Well i guess if nobody here knows anything about or tells me muriatic acid is ok to use, ill go buy a different ph down. Today i saw one that said sulfuric acid at petmart.

I suffer from the same problem, I live like 100 miles from a nursery or hydro shop (it kinda ***** to keep ordering of the net it takes to long) ;)

VINAGER
Have you guys ever used those in a hydro system? massproducer is right. I know from experience that if you put lemon juice or vinegar in the reservoir, you will have problems.
I was going to get the sodium bisulfate, but i read that its not good for plants, but people say all type of stuff so you know how that is.
Well, like I said, I've been using it for a couple of years now with no problems.
I know someone who uses the Muriatic acid from the pool store and he loves it. Says it mixes better than the Sodium Bisulfate crystals because it is already a liquid. He only uses a couple of drops per gallon. Remember, this stuff is designed to be dumped into swimming pools, so a little goes a long way. I haven't tried the liquid stuff yet because I'm still going through my first tub of the other.

Muriatic acid is also called HYDROCHLORIC ACID by the way. Well that is good to hear that your friend uses it with out adverse effects. I really just need it for this one time only until i get the good stuff, but anyone else have anything else to say about it feel free to tell me what you think. Thanks

Hay Runbyhemp have u ever grabbed ur Buds after using the lemon juice every time?
I have and can smell lemons in the Buds LOL and I do think it helps with the smell..
I use about 1 table spoon to a gal of water and before u go and put that much into the gallon of water, little at a time and check it as u go, and what I mean is this, not all water needs that much lemon juice to low PH..

:farm: Distilled vinegar, or lemon juice. Dont use cider or wine vinegar, it has live yeast in it that will grow in your res, and make a mess. ;)
