has any one out there tried growing Mazar from dutch passion seed bank?
if so how did they do for you? whats the secret?

this strain won 2nd place in High times cup in 1999 and 2nd place in highlife cup 2002

I myself am having a heck of a time with this strain.

I am so excited about growing this and I have 4 of my 10 seeds still left but I just cant plant them until I can figure out what went wrong with the first 6.

I sprouted others and grew them fine, but this one is kicking my %$@!!:holysheep:

HELP PLEASE!!!!
thanks a bunch!

Tell us what you're doing and we can help better. Some seeds are harder to germ than others.

this is a pic of what my mazar keeps doing to me, also a pic of the afghaan dream (from BC seed Co.) they where seeded at the same time!
see the difference?:hairpull:

I was just thinking, maybe the florencents I put my new seedlings under is to high above them and that is why I am getting the strech from the mazar?

how far away is the lights?

yeah the flo needs to be close, a few inches not many more. do you have an hps? you could be overwatering them as well. whats your timing? how many ppms are you running and whats the rezz and growroom temps? we need all the info you can give like ventilation, arreation, nutrient/watering cycle, lighting everything you can think of that you might have changed or done differently with these seeds compared to other strians that youve sucuessfully cultivated using the same method.

thanks and welcome to the site!!!!!!

I started these seeds April 1 in rockwool. the PH is high in my well water so I always add a cap full of PH down to each gallon jug and that puts the PH at exactly 6.0 every time. no nutrients

after germination I place them in a grow box with a florecent light inside, the size of my grow box is 1 ft high 1 1/2 ft wide and 23 inch long, see pics. here they stay for 18 hour of light a day until I see roots. still no nutrients. when roots pop out the bottom of wool or some times the sides I move to my grow room. this is where the fun starts!:D
10 by 11 extra bed room. I have two growing stations going on in here.
I know, I cant help myself I'm a multi tasker, and I like big buds, I can't deny I like to get HIGH!!!
the 1st is a sunshine shed 6ft tall 2 1/2ft wide and 2 1/2 ft deep (see pictures) it has it's own fan and the lighting right now is a 400 watt MH
and at the moment I have 2 buckets in there with 2 mazars. (see pics)

it origanally had a tub that held 14 plants but that got super crazy my first grow. we just put in random seeds I had been saving from the past 28 years or so and they just kept growing and growing and growing>>>>!!!

the second station is about 4ft x 5ft with a 7 1/2 - 8 ft clearance. room to grow!!! I am using a 1000 watt MH there (see Pics)

so when they enter the grow room I still dont add nutrients to the water right away, I usually give them a week or so. the natural state of the water they recieve before I add nutrients is around 250ppm or .5 EC
so when I do add nutrients it is slow I bump it to 350-400ppm or .7 EC

in my second grow station I have 3 afghaan dreams growing hoping and praying one or two are girls. (My next grow will be feminized seeds for this is way to much work to have to even think of murder:eek: )

in the first grow station is my second attempt with the mazars as you can see one is okay the other is...... helplessly behind.

see my pictures! the temp of the room is around 74-76 during the day and the nights when the lights go off it goes down to about 67-69.

I am using general hydroponics--floragro for nutrients, a light meter, ph tester, see my pic for the tools I am using for all this.
I have had no trouble keeping my water's PH around 6 should it be lower?

oh, and once they leave the grow box and go under the MH they keep the same lighting schedule 5:00am - 10:30pm

at the moment my afghaans are at 1.0 EC or 500ppm and the ph is still at 6, I change the water for every one faithfully every 2 weeks.

I raised the hydotron in my buckets and that seemed to help the splash off for I am using the airo type and the water is constantly dripping from a big ring. there is no soil being used here just rock wool and hydotron balls.

I have a 400 watt HPS bulb and a 1000 watt HPS bulb for flowering and I cant wait to start using it!!!

if I get a good girl out of this I will set up another grow area for her in a seperate room. I may set this up sooner because some of my plants wont be ready for 12/12 at the same time.

I have to admit I like this system better than the water pump. it was a huge pain to keep clean. this system is very easy to use and clean.

I test my water every day after a clean out, then after a few days I can let them alone I just keep an eye on the rooms temp. I have central air with built in electric air cleaner and I also have a seperate ion type air cleaner made by eco quest (I recommend to everyone it is amazing) but it was costly but so worth it!

the 2 bottom right pics are my Afghaan dreams.
the top left pic is my second grow station I covered on bucket the mazar in it died.
the top 2 middle pics are my seedling grow box, with lid off then lid on.
the top right pic is the two buckets in my shed, the bottom left is also the same buckets

Get the floro closer, also I see huge salt build up in the one Mazar picture.

Lots of salts.....

Ilikebigbuds
05-06-2008, 05:43 AM
wheres the salt coming from, this water is straight well water. is it from the nutrient? I flush the rock wool with room temp water when I clean out every two weeks, I have to pull off the rings and wipe them down about once a week.:o

usually from nutrients, also what is the well water PPMs? Lots of minerals in it? If it's above 200PPM then you have hard water and that could be the build up.

I'm also seeing algee

If you bury the cubes a bit deeper so they are covered the algae will die.

Also try using some distilled water for a bit and see if that helps any.

Ilikebigbuds

my water before I add anything is 250ppm and ph is high over7.5

so I awlays add ph down to each gallon jug. I will fill 30 to 40 gallon jugs and let them sit for a few days before i use them. I add ph down but I dont add the nutrients untill each bucket has it ph balanced water in them.

this water spicket does NOT go through my water softner system.

distilled water is about 79 cents a gallon around here that is just :angrywife:

I use at the least 30 gallons every 2 weeks, not to mention lugging those jugs home from the market. those old ladies in that store will be talking for sure!:giggle:

You have hard water that's the build up. You could boil the water, get distilled water, or find s hard water nutrient supplement. I wish I knew some off the top of my head I know General Hydroponics makes something for hard water. Also another filter on that spicket would help immensely or an RO filter would be even better. It's a one time cost and you want to get the water below 200PPM IMO that could be part of the problem.

All that build up is on the roots too!!!!

LOL I hear you I used to buy the water too, much more here. You do want better water though, sitting for 24 hours gets rid of chlorine, usually depends on how it's chlorinated as for the minerals in the water boiling or a filter, maybe a hard water supplement but I am not keen on any. Maybe do a post on hard water and see what people say, sorry i can't help more, I have soft water and an RO filter so I'm the wrong guy to ask.

thank you so much! this property I live on use to be a soy bean field for years and years.

I will look into a filter system for that spicket. I drink bottled water myself because I cant stand the taste of our well water. my out door gardens do well in the summer but I have noticed several types of perennials that I planeted last year did not grow or take root as they should have and didnt survive the winter. and I use this same water for them.

Soil and hydro are different in that manner, outdoors in soil you could do great but inside with hydro it's a different story. Good luck and I hope it works out for you, it sucks to lose seeds and seedlings no need to dwell though....like you said it's fun right?

If you have the cash , you can pick up a cheap RO machine on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Reef-6st-100GPD-Reverse-Osmosis-RO-DI-Water-Filters_W0QQitemZ120255326266QQihZ002QQcategoryZ20 684QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)for under $100 bucks. My water comes out at 0ppm :-) . Its good to start at 0 and work your way from there.

Reverse Osmosis, it cleans the water up really nicely, better than your filter I bet. Also listen to what Trillions of Atoms said too, you could have a couple problems but the water is probably the worst IMO.

And on this board we don't think any question is stupid, well most of them LOL. Ask away, we were all new to it at one point right?

If that white stuff on your hydro system comes of quick its salt if it is hard to break off its probably a calcium build up just my opinion

I think that your ppm could be causing you some problems. Generally minerals in well water are in solution and cannot be removed with a cartridge filter set up, you need something like an RO system. Since the plants are still seedlings and their water requirements are not great, I would do as Snuggles suggested and buy some distilled water to see if it makes a difference.

Ilikebigbuds

I have to scrub a bit to get the white stuff off, it wipes off the rings very easy but the sides of the buckets I have to use some muscle.

I got a well water filter system today and its getting installed in the morning!
