Optimum lighting is 5000 lumens per square foot.
You have 6 square foot. A 150W HPS puts out 16,000 lumens.
That gives you 2666 lumens per square foot.
That gives you about half the neccessary light that you require.

but if the light is right above it does it matter how big the room is

I think it's 18 to 24 inches. I'm using a 150watt hps in a smaller setup. You could get away with a 400watt with your area if u wanted.

I have a 2x2x3 box with a 150w hps and I have one plant in organic soil I kept in on 24hrs of light until it was 6in tall then turned back the clock to 12/12 its now 20in tall and full of little fat buds.

If it's just one plant you'll be fine. Check out what Potbelly has done with a 70W HPS.
