In my flower closet I have run out of vertical room and my plants are about six inches from my 400hps. The leaves are showing no sign of heat stress at all and the light has been that close for like two weeks now. Can they be stressed by the heat and not show it? I have one plant that is doing the rams horn thing with the leaves but that plant is the farthest from the light so Im confused. Doesnt the rams horn mean too much heat? It only occurs on the new growth, the rest of the leaves on the plant look normal.

with heat stress the edges/tips of leaves turn up slightly to help transpire moisture to cool off. severe cases get brown crispy leaves...curled up. if yours are curled down(the claw) its nutes or even possibly watering issues.IMO

Can you post a picture? It doesn't really sound like heat stress.

I can run my air cooled 1000W HPS less than 6" from the top of my plants without damaging them.

what do you need a pic of? The plant with the claw or the plants close to the light? I guess I got too many questions going at once. My lights go on at six tonight so Ill get a pic then. I cant remember but I think the plant with the claw is the one that went through a very rough and traumatic transplant. So can plants be heat stressed and not show any obvious burning of the leaves. I have no ventilation at all in my closet, just a fan and i leave the door open when the lights are on. Temps are usually around 75f.

Thanks for all the input!

do you have a fan blowing between your plant canopy and your light(6in?) if you check my latest grow pics i have slight heat stress. the edges are turned slightly up and the leaves are waxy. these,i believe are the plants first protection against heat which lets me now i cant pushem any harder. i also have claw and slight tip burn which lets me know im at max nutes(i backed off nutes a litytle when i saw this,i dont back light off until tips curl up slightly. hope it helped, just my methods the second pic of most recent show it best

Yeah I have the fan about a foot away from the light and it is blowing right between the light and the canopy. Maybe thats what is saving my ***. I cant wait to own my own house so I can make a really nice grow room. But for now my closet will have to do.

If the leaf edges are not curling up or any bleached out spots you are fine.
