What is this bug ?

Last night I had to get up in the middle of the night to urinate. All of a sudden I heard this thing flapping at my head. Damn near fightened the life out of me. Thing must be a couple of inches long. I trapped it overnight in the bath underneath an upturned glass, so as I could get a few pics before releasing it. Anybody got any ideas what it is ? Spend an hour trying to find it on Google, but no luck so far. Funny looking thing isn't it ?

We have those here too, thousand and thousands of them,nothing to worry about they are carnivores, they do not eat plants, they are predators

Ive seen that thing before isnt that the offspring of Mothera. Wild looking bug man. Dr. Frankenstine did his job well or is this another of Hippies demented experiments.

It kind of looks like a Rathvon's Scarab (Lichnanthe Rathvoni). Larvae feed on decaying leaves and other organic debris. Adults are attracted to lights at night. The grubs of many scarabs are root feeders.
What part of the world are you in Runby? That would further narrow it down if it's not a Rathvon's. :fly:

I'm in Ireland SativaWeed. I did a bit of googling and think it's a Polyphylla (Scarabaeidae), commonly known, as King said, the "June Beetle"
