Ok. I found out today i have high blood presure, and was given pills to take for it. my question is how does mj effect your blood presure? i've read a few things today but nothing solid. Is it a bad idea to take the pills to lower it if smoking lowers it to? Thanks for the help

My wife has had high blood pressure since she had our daughter almost 5 years ago. She takes lipitor and had to quit smoking because of the adverse side effects it was having on her. Different person to person though. Probably best to talk to your doctor about any concerns though.

evrything i've read says that it lowers your blood presure, one would think that constricting the blood vessels would make it go up. what were the side effects if you don't mind me asking?

She started getting chronic headaches and nausea whenever she smoked. She was never a big smoker though, maybe once a week she would have a couple of tokes. The headaches and nausea did clear up though when she stopped all together. Maybe it was related maybe not, but definetly ask your doctor. I am always straightup with my Doctor about my MJ use, and he is very cool about it.

Yo Ho Friends,
According to the NAS, the effects of marijuana on blood pressure are complex, depending on dose, administration, and posture. Marijuana often produces a temporary, moderate increase in blood pressure immediately after ingestion; however, heavy chronic doses may slightly depress blood pressure instead.
One common reaction is to cause decreased blood pressure while standing and increased blood pressure while lying down, causing people to faint if they stand up too quickly.
There is no evidence that pot use causes persisting hypertension or heart disease; some users even claim that it helps them control hypertension by reducing stress.
One thing THC does do is to increase pulse rates for about an hour. This is not generally harmful, since exercise does the same thing, but it may cause problems to people with pre-existing heart disease. Chronic users may develop a tolerance to this and other cardiovascular reactions.
Hope that this helps a little
smoke in peace

Soory to hear Slomo77. Hey did your doctor talk to you at all about diet? It's very important, if he didn't then maybe you should look into it. Not to tell you your business but it can help immensely and would actually be good for you all the way around. Good luck and I wouldn't worry, I have low blood pressure and I smoke like a fiend and have been for 15 years, I exercise also and I feel fine and when I went for my checkup I was OK, except for the smoking cigs....my doc always talks to me about that, he's a good guy and he also understands that I don't like to take pills LOL.
