how far do you guys keep your light away from your plant?Whats up Chicken. It depends on what kind of light you have. I do it this way if you can put your hand between the light and your plants and your hand doesnt get hot then its close enough.

I've been keeping my 250W MH about 18 inches above the plant without any problems.

i have my 400watt mh about 12-15" from my girls. Fans in all the right positions keep the temps nice and low around the bulb.

Actually Steve it would be better to start your plants under fluoro's.... until they get 8 to 12 inches high anyway.

Generally I keep my lights at 'Hand Hot' Distance. If my hand is too hot to keep just above the plants, the light is too close.
Also, The leaves curl if it is too close
