soil mixes/blends?

i was just curious what some of the dirt growers are using for mixes, blends, and additives....i've been having a problem lately with my soil packing down and bogging down my plants....my mix is mainly thunderhead soil, extra worm castings, and extra perlite....it seems the main problem i have is everytime i water the perlite floats to the top....eventually the top is just a layer of perlite with hard packed soil underneath....any ideas/advice to help me increase drainage properties would be greatly appreciated....

Whats up fleshstain. IMO It sounds like you dont have your perlite mixed up in your soil good enough.
