Last night the power shut off right before my flowering room was about to turn on.my cycle is 9 pm to 9 am.my power didn't come back on till 5:30 am.I didn't really know what affect this would have on my girls.im made the decision to go ahead and turn on the light just for the remaining 3 1/2 of my normal cycle hours and let it shut off.I thought long and hard and came to the conclusion that this was better than giving my plant 12 hours of light, but completly changing the light cycle(which would of switched the cycle to 5:30 am to 5:30 pm.i hope i didn't screw my girls up.
if any body could shed some light on what might happen or anything i can do to help my girls after this let me know.other than this all is well!!!
thanks to you guys/girls on the forum and the huge library of info.
this my first grow and im very close to the finish line.4-5 weeks.:D :hubba:
my next grow will have a journal so you guys can see whats going on.

Thanks in advance
Dr. Vapor

I would have done the same thing. Doesn't mean I'm right but just that I would have drawn the same conclusion as you...I think they are going to be fine.

Good luck, and enjoy the final stretch before the your first harvest...welcome to the club friend. Can't wait to see your next grow and your first journal.

Good decision doctorvapor!!
You made the right choice man great job, your plants will continue to grow as if nothing ever happend. Now if this happens more than 3 times you bet your looking at trouble, but if this was the first time you will see no ill side affects. Peace and love!!!!

you'll be alright dude.its happened to me many times.if i lived in a house,i'd just run a generator but since i rent,i dont want my neighbors to suspect anything.mine actually went out for a few days once.i just let them have the light of the sun during the day, then when the sun set i just put the plastic back up on the window and put them on their night cycle.it happens.
it was a little extra work but better than stressin out the ladies. good luck-peace

Your plants just figured that it was a low prodution day, meaning to them, it was just very cloudy and not enough light and energy made it through the thick clouds. As said before after about 3 times, your plant will start to try and finish faster causing it to stress out and hermie at best and definetly harm your yeilds. Now if your light goes out say like 2 or 4 hrs before its dead time, your better to leave it off and resume normal schedule the following day. So to sum it up, It's better to make a day shorter than to strobe your light on and off freaking it out. Hope this helps....

I live in a mountainous area with a lot of power outages. Each outage has to be dealt with on an indicidual basis, based on when in the light/dark cycle the outage occurred. I would have done as you did. I think it is always better to gove them more dark and less light rather than the other way around.

Although I have a generator, I am not always home when the power goes out. And sometimes I cannot get it started myself. And sometimes the power goes out during the night and I am not aware of it until I wake up and see the alarm clock flashing 12:00...12:00...12:00...12:00...

I'm not sure the "don't do this more than 3 times" thing is necessarily true. I have had a couple of hard winters where I know my plants went through numerous weird lighting things without adverse effects. I am working on an emergency light thing (like they use in stairwells) for the flowering room, but I have to figure out how to rig it so that it does not go on during dark time...Any ideas?

Yo Ho there peeps,

The rule of thumb here is to be patient, and remember that you are dealing with not only a weed, but a plant that is designed by nature to handle all sorts of problamatic things that come it's way.

If the lights in your cycle go out, you are always better off to wait untill the following light period to put them back on. The worst thing that could happen is if your babies get stressed, and your looking at potential hermie time.

Most likely you will just add a week or two to the flowering time. Consider picking up a propane lantern that can be hung in with your babies. It will provide enough light to temporarily satisfy, put out a lot of Co2, and throw a bit of warmth to keep your grow alive if your in the frozen zone.

As with all things that can potentially cause a fire you must be observant, and cautious. Use your head, and go easy with things. I would rather lose a patch of grass, then burn down my home and lose my azimuth. LOL
