ok my 1000w hps is in 12/12
some girls showed themselves and I want to keep 1 of each strain
to keep as mothers.
What is the bare minimum to maintain mothers to take clones off of.
is two 4ft 40w flouresecent grow lights enough??
Do moms need a fan??
thanks..

Hey man id think that would be enough for them. i used a side mount grow in a cabinet last year had 4 4' flos (dual bulb) 40W going and they turned out fine (i know just for mother vegging) but it should suffice them fine. Id think about a couple of bigger CFLs for the top though cause with a side mount grow the plant will like to flop over sideways and grow at an angle, but you already know that im sure :D ;)

I keep mum's/donors under minimal growing conditions untill I'm ready for cuttings. I restrict the growth by keeping them in small pots,(1 gallon) low light,(cfl's) and minimal nutrients, and a small fan for circulation. (totally enclosed closet)
A few days before I'm wanting to take cuttings, I'll give them a good feeding of high "P" nutes.
About once p/year, I'll take cuts,(a safety net) and do a root trimming. Remove them from their pot, wash the medium from the rootball, and trim it up to be replaced into fresh FFOF soil.

hows the smell keeping mothers in veg
Depends somewhat on the individual plant. But 'in general', vegging and under those growing conditions, they are less potent than if flowering, or maxing out growth.
