I heard from some where that there are mythical strains not allowed to compete!

Any Truth?

I don't no about that but I have heard that the cups are bought not Won, I've heard that Greenhouse seeds are the worst for this, mind you these are all rumours its not like I was there for the payoff!LOL I heard the 420 cup is better to go to mind you I would love to go to either!

Then I read somewhere that the company got banned. I checked and the last couple years they havent had a single entry.
I dont know if their is any real truth. But they must not be entering strains for some reason.

Northern Lights. A pure Indica, won the Cannabis Cup in '88, '89, '90.

Maybe its the pure indica division. Dont know, why I put question marks. Just rumors Ive run across.

In the Sensi Seeds marketing blurb for their Northern Lights, they wrote this, "For many years, Northern Lights dominated the various harvest festivals, winning cup after cup, leading to a more than one request that she be retired from competition in order to allow other strains a shot at the title."
However this is taken from their blurb on the strain, who knows how true it is.

There are MANY cups and competitions in many different countries. There is NO STRAIN out there that has been banned from them all, and there never will be. If someone on a website is ever advertising a strain that is so good it is not allowed to compete, they are LYING.

First of all, sorry to have derailed this perfectly good thread. I assure you all it was not my intention, I moderate two other forums and know how annoying it is. I only wanted to agree with a user because I was going to say the same thing but he had already done so.
Again sorry, I didn't mean to offend anybody. And Spearchucker, if those little things "offend" you, you had better chill out and smoke one man. TBH (that means "to be honest") your name offends me, it comes off as a bit racist.
You are all entitled to your opinions, but if I can not express myself how I see fit, (within reason) I will go elsewhere. I mostly come here for entertainment and to help some new growers. (Feel free to check my post history. It's not much, I am new here)

I'm not sure about companies buying cups, though I am sure there are attempts to pay off the judges. If you look at laotik's post above like the last 11 years Barney's and Greenhouse have won every year except for one. Having grown strains from both breeders I can attest to the fact that they have some GREAT genetics. Are they good enough that they deserved to win every year over the last decade?....I am not so sure. There are hundreds of breeding houses out there, some I would say are better overall such as Sensi Seeds.

I agree. That is what is tough about looking at cup winners. You will never know the genetic diversity of the strain. I ordered super silver haze from greenhouse which has won a cup. I got ten beans and 6 were female. But none of them carried a pheno that I thought was good at all, I just didn't think it was good period. Perhaps the pheno that won the cup only displays itself in 1 out of 100 females. But of the 10 Jack Herer beans I got I germed 5, 3 were female and two displayed GREAT sativa dominant phenos that produce some great smoke. The third just did not have very good trich production at all.
Check it out. I grew two different NYCD females from seed. I took clones and flowered the seed plants. See the fuzzy one without as many trichs? Those clones were destroyed. The other one with all the trichs, those clones were kept. As you can see, the genetic diversity even inside a strain is huge. The one on the right below is the dried product of the pic I put up for BPOTM. If you blow it up you can even see trichs on the stem where I cut away some bud for smoke.

i didnt know what QFT stood for either. i know i couldnt insert words that fit and then take offense but why, this is online not in person.
