When subcool did his book "DANK", he used a nikon 5400 cool pix. I bought one on ebay for $50. It has a built in macro mode. Its a range finder not a dslr. So the lens is built in. With a D40, you'll need a macro zoom lens. Currently Subcool shoots a D50. I shoot with a D200. Honestly, you don't need a dslr for good photos. But a macro mode is esstential.
forgot to mention, most trichome shots are manipulated in photoshop to get the trichomes to stand out and to get the correct color and cropping. I bought my photoshop on ebay for $99

I would fully expect a $600 camera to come with atleast a macro mode..
just looked at the specs on the nikon d40 and macro shots arent listed.. maybe im over looking it.. im sure it comes with a macro option without changing to a more expensive lens.. hell my cheap cameras had macro shots..
anyone know if the d40 has a macro shot?

all nikon dslr's use f mount lens. so you would need the same macro lens for the D60 as the D40. same lens for my D200. i use a nikkor 28mm-105mm macro zoom f3.5-5.6 with extensions.
