Hello everyone! The "Servers Busy" errors have become a serious problem. They are annoying to everyone and cause a lot of stress and delay in posting and viewing the messages on the site.

The first step in finding the problem is to test the various functions of the software used on the site and to disable them, one at a time to see if the problem suddenly disappears.

This thread will be a trouble shooting thread with only posts that pertain to the trouble shooting of the problem.

The members who notice that the problem is no longer happening, can post that result in this thread as soon as they notice that they have received no errors in the times that they would normally see the problem. This will help find the resolution as fast as possible.

If we get lucky, one of the addons, when disabled for 48 hours (or less), will eliminate the problem. If this happens, then a work around for using that software can be found.

Please do not use this thread for regular postings. It's important to keep it on topic during the testing.

We will start the testing on 24th of August, and will allow each change to stay in place for 48 hours to ensure the accuracy of the results.

Here are the parts we'll be disabling, one at a time:

1. VB plugins we have running like thank you posts, reputation, gallery header panel on home page and a few others like advertising module.
2. Gallery
3. Atachments
4. Search function
5. Arcade
6. Smilies

A post will be made by the staff, before and after each part of the testing so that the members will be aware of what addon will be disabled during each portion of the testing.

At the moment we have disabled all the Plugins we have installed

Please report how if you see any server busy message or any other errors appearing then next 24/48 hours!

Thanks to each of you for your patience in regards to this hassle, and I want to assure you that one way or another, it will be resolved as soon as it can be.

Starting about 1:30pm, Eastern time in the USA, I noticed that the site is running very fast and have had NO "Busy" messages in 30 minutes of usage.

I've used the PM's, reading the messages from thread to thread and also have replied to both PM's and messages within that time.

All worked fast as hell and I've had no "Busy" messages.

my comments wasn't meant to be a complaint. only describing which plug-in is out and the effect. Its running so fast and smooth, it hardly seems like the same site.

I've never seen the site run so fast. The BHC thread loaded as fast as greased lightning :D

The site still thinks I have a reputation beyond repute, though. I always figured that was part of the server problem:)

yeah i haven't been here for more than 2 weeks, but i definitely notice an extreme difference. last night i was having trouble getting budshots to load without the "server busy" message, but now it is like you gave the constipated server some x-lax. lol.

Yes...and it seems the bar below our names that increases with the number of posts you make is also out of whack...people with 200 posts hve the same size bar as members with 1000's of posts...I am guessing it will all be sorted out in dew time....

Ok thanks guys. I did enable almost all plugins now except a few, but the load is still too much. I was waiting until it was a bit busier on the forum to test the plugins one by one and see which one causes the most load.

I think it will be best to disable most of them in order to keep the forum fast. It's best to sacrifice some of the plugins in order to enjoy fast browsing through the forums I think.

What would you say?

Although I think the "thanks" button was a great feature of this forum, I think that having pages and pictures load quicker is better. Everything is still working ok here, I haven't run into a server busy message since Sunday.

I think getting rid of the "Servers Busy" error is MUCH more important than having the addons.

Keeping the addons would be the equivilant of selling your car for gas money.

i'm sure we would all adapt if at all any or many features/addons are disabled.
there'll be a few weeks of whines and whimpers and complaints etc but it will subside and in matter of few weeks it will all be gone and we will all look back at teh server busy like bad dream. i hope LOL

ya know i nevr us ethe arcade ever either. besides im thinkin this is a mj grow site not an arcade. but thats just me. i think that would be the most logical sacrifice IMO. if granted it'd do any good.

I don't think the arcade uses much. At most you see a few people online there and the games are in flash so you basically download them to your computer and the size is at most a few mb. So after you have downloaded the game it's in your cache and you can play forever without causes server load. It's more like watching pictures, most of the pictures are the same size as a game so I wouln't think the arcade has much to do with he server load.

And actually it's not the server it is the database. The addons are little functions that are loaded in every post in every thread, so those little addons are calculations that are send to the database and there it calculates what it has to show on the post. Like the thank you posts, the reputation, todays posts, banner module etc.

It seems they all add up to the server load so it would be difficult to choose which one would be enabled and which ones not. The less you enable the faster the server is so I guess that it wouldn't be a difficult choice to make.

I agree totally, MarP! This site is intended for experienced growers to share technique and experiences. It's also a fantastic learning venue for those who have decided to grow their own stash!

IF the addons caused no negative effects, then sure, they're a cool thing to have, but if they start interfering with the primary purpose of the site, then it only makes sense to get back to the most important features.

Being able to quickly find information and post information far outweighs the banners, new posts notes and "thank-yous" that we lose by this retroactive upgrade.

how many addons are there? if it's possible to keep one or two i'd much prefer the "new posts"--i guess you can throw me in with the whiners on that one. if you determine just to get rid of X amount of them, maybe put up a vote on here and see who would like to keep what? and for that matter, limit the vote to people with a high number of posts or members that have been around a long time.

...i wonder how much it would save if you took away the log out feature...lol

i use to have a myspace page couple years ago and when i'd view peoples pages that had hella stuff added on they profile the longer it'd take to load so i see wat ya tryin to say for sure now.

i aint gettin as stoned while im on MP now. :rofl:
i use to take the server busy time outs to either take couple tokes. pack bowl etc etc and i had to do it diff today. lol
i just took intermissions periodically since last nite. :-)

MarP, shortly before 7:00pm: Had a little trouble getting MP up. Lasted about five minutes with the fastest DSL my area offers. Don't know if it was MP related but all other sites tried worked fine. Thanks.:)

Ok, thanks guys. All plugins are still disabled. I have turned off the server busy message so you won't see that message now but what happens then is that you cannot access pages, or the pages just won't load. So, that happened sometimes to a few of you i see. So, the problem is not quite solved but it's a lot better then the past. We still need a new faster and more powerful server but in the mean time we can keep the plugins disabled to optimize the speed.

Thanks everyone for the support! And especially to Stoney Bud that came up with the idea to start testing out different features at a time to see where the problem lies. I feel a bit stupid after we found out what caused the most load lol But i'm glad we got it a little fixed right now.

We will be working on a new server in the mean time.

Thanks MarP! Sometimes it's easier to see when standing outside of the problem. As the owner of another vBulletin site, I can appreciate the complexity involved with running vBulletin and the addons.

You've been up to your elbows working in the backend of this huge site and your efforts have shown to be worth every moment!

Hey MarP, what about turning of new register members for a bit until server is sorted...That will sort the spammers until you get the server sorted ;) We got plenty of members turning off any new ones. I'm sure it won't hurt us...sure beats runnin around chasing spammers.

So in their contact info home page is the spam addy as well.

Ok, i enabled two plugins some hour ago to stop the spam posts.
One is the anti spam question a registering module and the other one is canot post links until 15 posts.

I hope that helps keeping those spammers away and the server fast enough.Thanks MarP! The spam filter didn't seem to make any differnce in the load.

I think the "Totaling" of post data was one of the issues, like you said. Every time someone thanked a member, the server had to readjust it's stats and post them into each post made by that user. With only a few thousand users, that wouldn't show much. But with 20 thousand members, the constant updating of "thanked posted" was adding up to a noticeable slowdown. I think that was a major find.

If you keep adding them back, one at a time for a day or two, I think you'll be able to sort which are problems and which are not.

Thanks for the "thank you" from you guys. I've been programming for about 30 years now. After creating more than 600 major databases, I've learned well how to troubleshoot my stuff to find the zillions of errors I made. hehehe

All I did was suggest some of the ways I troubleshoot my own stuff.

Some day, if they do an autopsy on me, when they crack my head, nothing but little ones and zeros are going to fall out. :D

I just got the Server Busy message twicw in a row. I hit refresh, and on the third time, it went thru.

Thanks everyone for reporting. If possible could you also tell the amount of members online when you get the server busy message? So that would be guests and members at the same time. Just to see what is maximum we can handle.

I find if I click Quick Links up above (next to the log out) then Todays Posts, it will show you all of them.

I really do miss the "thanks" app....It's not worth the "server issue" but certainly more important than say the arcade(which I seldom use) and IMO it served well as a "pat on the back" or a "tap on the shoulder" simutaniously...If that makes since.

i just posted a picture in a thread also and when it opened a bunch of code and jibberish just come up on the screen instead of the traditional supersized image of attached thumbnail. HMMM ?

and erlier today round 5pm central i think i had troubles even gettin the home page to open for me. it went on for bout half hour that im aware of. after that i gave up tryin to go on and first come back tonite round midnite or so. and works fine other than the pic thingy

I'm not sure what the problem is about the database error. I receive a lot of database errors since early this morning. It looks like something is malformed or anything like that in the database. I have to check this out. It seems that it only appears when clicking an attachment in a post.

Well the host was working on this issue since last night and told me that some tables of the database were damaged. That happened because there was no more server space to write attachments to, so that gave an error into the database. We have more then 10gig of attachments on the server but the total space is 100gig, so there should have beenenough room for the storage of the files. Well anyway they had to do a lot of work and luckily they could fix the problem without any loss of data. I'm thankful for that!

So, lets hope everything stays smooth this time. Guys, take it easy okay!!?? Be care with her this time hehe

Same in Florida.

Oh and go MarP i haven't seen a server busy message in about 2 weeks now, less the days when the site was down ;) I still wonder if its the arcade and the many missing tourneys and such that have caused all the problems. I seem to remember when a couple of them crashed it all about a year or so ago and that seemed (to me at least) when all the trouble with the busy server started.

While you are here MarP around 1 hour ago i had a message while trying to access new posts and numerous new threads it said diagnose connection problems ...so i did diagnose the problem and my connection was fine according to windows ...so i went and surfed for a while 5 mins and all other sites were ok to access but when i tried to access MP again i got the diagnose connection problems again ! So around 20 mins later i gained access again ! Strange occurance it has'nt happened before maybe just one of those things ??? Peace and take care ! oh well you were here !

Very observant HIE, yes, I noticed too. Didnt think about it much tho...is it important? My Holy sheep has been on top and second row down today. Would not have noticed if it had not had that sign and took up so much space.

eek is usually mid top, now mid second line.....and I have NEVER seen the violin player on this window, usually see him in more :fid: . Now Holy sheep is back where he should be, third down on left.

It's 9:25pm Eastern USA time, Sept 29th. The Nivana banner is "X'd" out and I've had the site lock out on me several times today. It's a "Site not found" error. Other sites work fine during these outages that seem to last only a couple minutes at a time.

I've noticed that as of last night that this site doesn't work properly if I use my proxy server. It has always worked in the past, but that is no longer the case. For instance, at the top of the page it indicates that I've a new pm to read. I click on the link and can't find it. The same has happened with replies to threads. I see that there are supposedly a certain number of replies, but when I click on the link to read the thread and associated posts, I only see the original post, but I can't see the replies. I log out and sign in again without the proxy server, and everything works well.

very slow since Thursday 10/01 takes a few minutes to load page..oh im west coast USA

The past few days MP has been running crazy slow. Haven't gotten any 'server busy' pops, just takes forever for pages to load. When the pages do finally load, it still may take several moments for images to clear and smilies show up as empty boxes, etc.

Plus when I click 'Quick Links' above in the tool bar, I often get redirected to the home page http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/ instead of seeing the drop down.

still same as other day..only missing "server Busy" ..I dont know..just slow...thanks for working so Hard on it we all Thank ya ( if ther was a button.) cause seems I given to much today..IDK...sometimes frustating..but working around it...I think it gets busyier when Kids are outta school ...west coast here....Ill look into diffrent times of Day..and get back..but for now..Thanks..:bolt::bong:

Hope the server dont do to you,,like my car does to my Machanic..:rofl: work great when ya around..but i see still slow to reload...and may I ask .....Will we get the " Thank" button back?...seems That was a great feature to guide me back..and I dont get my subscriptions on anymore....okay why Im on subgect,,,,why am I on " Trouble Group" :giggle: I been good...I think...I was blameing server ..Hope ya dont mind..okay gotta grow now..

How is the forum acting today for you?It's running well for me, MarP. I always make sure to give the date and time I had problems so you can check it against any server errors you might find from the admin view.

I hope everything is going well for you! Jump in here and yak at us all once in awhile!

MarrP...running much faster ..Stoney ..time here in Seattle is 8:40pm...and was running slow early today say my 4:20:bong: so he was doing something...oh and Seattle is West Coast...USA...will look at how it does later and with my coffee in Morning...untill then smoke freely

I'm sorry to bring it up again, but the server doesn't work properly with my proxy server. The bud pic of the month isn't visible, for example.

The bud pic of the month isn't visible, for example.On the server end of vBulletin, there isn't anything that would make that happen, Alistair. The ads show as a link to a directory on the host server. Nothing very complicated about that. Because of the placement of the pic of the month block, your ISP, your OS or your virus protection may be seeing it as an unwanted advertisement and blocking it.

Check your settings on anything you have that could be a spam blocker and try turning them off and on to see the effect.

If it's not on your PC, then the Proxy Server you have has changed their software somehow where *they* are blocking title-bar ads.

Nothing MarP can do will change it for you.

If his were blocking it, we all would have the problem.

To check the links that may be broken, MarP needs the links that failed for you.

There are programs that do that automatically, but most of them are full of bugs of their own...

If you can post the exact links you clicked on, or at least the post that contained the link, then he can check/remove the link.

Unless you tell him specifically what link didn't work, he can't do anything. There are zillions of links in the archives.

true...I aint that technical...sorry..I just posted in the sticks i have problems..people are saying its working fine they end..so must be my settings..Im no pc guru at all...but Ill work on that one..930am here seems to running fine.

I couldnt get in at all for about 1.5 hours tonight...no server busy message, just nothing, like it never existed. From about 9:30 pm- 11 pm central time.

MarrP...I was haveing troubles with site running slower yesturday from 1130am west coast time ..and gave up around 100pm...Just logged in at 530am Wednesday and seems to running ok...did notice My PM's uploading slow...I dont know these computer things..and dont know if this helps..But Im trying to help...:D
