pesky pests

Earlier in the day...it was time to do some transplanting of the latest batch of younglings. Had everything ready, just about to to pick up the first container to get the plant when I noticed some movement.

There were piss ants in the transplant container. Well....so scratch that notion cuz I want no bugs in my closet.

I make a run out the door, head to a store, get a new bag of mix...long story short...While filling up the pot, I gave the mix a close look...brand new out of the bag - piss ants here and there and everywhere in the mix.

I treated the bag with a few shots of neem, sealed it, flipped it over, stuck it out on the sun. And grumbled something about having to wait a day before getting those young'ns in their final spot.

The ants won't actually eat the plants themselves but will become a problem in and amongst the root system as they make their homes in the medium.
