when growing indoors where would be the best place to put the sinser to read the temperature

Put it somewhere out of the lights but at the same level as the top of the plants. Some people put it between the top of the plants and some hang them next to the door. You have to find a suitable place yourself :-)

You can test with your lights how low you can go. Put a fan on the top of the plants that circulates over the plants. This way they can stand more heat and you can put your lights lower so the plants receive more light, but becareful, test this in little steps.

Also your fan could stop one day and the top of your plants could burn.
