First off, if you mean "take the cola" as in the main cola is ready and you want to harvest, then all you have to do is cut it down. But if you do that, you should be ready to harvest the rest of the plant. Secondly, if you plant is in flowering, you cannot take clones. You could harvest your plant and put it back into veg and then take a clone, but that is not exactly easy especially if you plan to harvest your whole plant. You can only clone a plant when it is veggin. I would recommend reading a grow guide on harvesting and cloning ;)

Thanks Joe, i am about to put my plant in flower and wanted to take the cola to clone, for acouple of reasons one like i said to clone ,but secondly cause of height restrictions. So what node would be the best node to take that cola from?

I think you may be using the wrong terminology. The cola or main cola isn't present on the plant until the flowering period. And you want to keep the cola until the end of your growing cause that is where all the bud is going to be.

What you are talking about is indeed cloning, and you are on the right track with that talk about picking a node. Do a search on this forum for " clone " (or more specifically " Hick's Cloning Method " ). You are definitely not the first person to ask about cloning a plant, so do that search and you will find threads that explain various methods. ;)

You also mentioned that height is a concern for this grow. You will need to find some methods of keeping the height in control. There are some threads that talk about this, do a search for " Low Stress Training " (LST) or " Topping ".

Best of luck to ya! Edit: damn quotation marks turn into weird html or css or something.

During flower, your plant will at least double in height. The small piece you take from the top won't make a bit of difference in that.

For the clone, only the top 4 to 6 inches is needed.

Leave only a couple of fan leaf on the stem below the top growth. Too much leaf and the plant won't be able to take up enough nutrients through the stem to support itself and will kill off fan leafs anyway. It's better to do it first. Use a very sharp cutting tool. Razors work great. I use a very sharp pair of manicure scissors.

Using a rooting hormone is a good idea as well. How are you going to root your clone? If you put it in a peat pellet with some Rootone hormone, that's one way. In a glass of water with only some root hormone is another. In a glass with nothing but water is yet another.

Good luck with whatever method you use. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Walmart carries Rootone in the garden center.

Stoney,i am gonna use Schultz "take root" as my hormone and i am gonna use the steps "HICK" uses in one of his threads i found.I will be scraping them to help them with roots.I am changing my flowering lights also i just got flors one cool, one warm, because i only have the one 400hps for my flowering.will them floros work for the veg?I will keep you posted on how everythings turning out.

Plants like the white and cool flouros; I've had them lean away from pinkish ones but maybe you might find one that works.

A 400 HPS sounds ample for one plant unless she is really tall and wants side light.

Misting cloners are the way to get 100% rooting. And you can put beefy clones in them with lots of fan leaves and they still turn out 100%

If you clip your cola, make sure to let that baby grow out a bit before you go into bud. I have topped before (before they go into alternating growth pattern) and you can get more bud than regular but only top once, not twice, because then the yield lowers. You have to let it grow out a bit, like I said. I've only done it on little plants, 18" - 24", and for those, you have to let it grow out 4-5 nodes before you begin bud cycle.

I'd rather lean the pot over rather than cut a cola for heighth reasons.

And you certainly can take clones from a flowering plant but the clones will take an extra week to root.
