Hey speero_m, one of my rooms is 12 feet x 14 feet, (3.66 x 4.27 meters), and using two 430 watt HPS, with an ambient temperature of about 70F, (21.11C), in the house, that room stays at 75-80 degrees F. (23.88 - 26.66 C.)

That's with fans blowing.

MH are better for vegging. HPS for flowering. If the wallet is an issue, HPS works great for both. That's what I use.

Good luck to you man!

For the Veg stage I would go with the two MH and use the HPS for flowering.

you can get 400 and 600 watt mh/hps systems on ebay...that way you can use MH for veg and HPS for flower

Hey Speerom, The plants are looking good. The light looks ok, but I can't really tell what wattage it is. Maybe a 150?

Ebay is hit and miss... sometimes HUGE savings.. sometimes rip offs..

I paid $150 for ballast, $60 for bulb and $80 for reflector when I first started. And the guy gave me a first timers break and sold it all together for $275. (this was a 1000w hps setup) This was also not on ebay.

A 400 watt light should be about 18 inches from the top of the plants. Any closer, and you run the risk of infrared light damage. Infrared isn't affected by fans or ventilation. It goes directly from the light to the surface of whatever it hits. A 400 watt light emits enough infrared to damage a plant from less than 18 inches away.

It's just like the infrared in sunlight. On a moderately cloudy day with a real good breeze going, you can still get one hell of a sunburn on your body from the infrared that comes through the cloud cover. That's exactly the same problem with light distance on plants.

They should make a sun block for plants.....SPF 1000

Hhahhahahaha

I've thought about getting an infrared blocking lens for a light and see how that works with a trial grow. It could block the infrared and allow the light to be much closer; (in theory anyway).

Do you mean ultraviolet? You get a sunburn from ultaviolet.

Ha! With the sun, yes, with the plant light, it's the infrared. Same principle tho'.

If you take the back of your hand and hold it beneath the light, when it feels like almost no heat is hitting your hand, that's the correct height.

Watch your plants closely and if you get any sign of heat stress, raise the light. Each reflector and bulb has different characteristics, so you have to see what your bulb and reflector do for you.
