I think this is a good idea. 2006 was the year of video online and there are quite some good growing videos online that we can share with eachother.

I don't know if i can host videos but people can use Youtube or something like that to upload there videos and add a link on the forum here.

Great idea!

What do you people say?

we currently have few of the proper videos that make growing fun to watch and learn. We will NOT upload to any other site other than this. See what we can and can't do please. It would be fun to do. Could also post videos of your grow with zooming in and stuff like that. Discreet videos of course. Would deffinetely increase server load.

It might be safer to host the videos on our own server but videos eat an enormous amount of server space and with uploading it will increase server load indeed.

Youtube decreases the size and make it easier for viewing, we don't have that ability on this server so videos that are uploaded would be very big. And downloading them would eat bandwith. I don't think i can affort that on my own.

agreed,

you will be eating to much bandwith and the fact alone that you run this site alone is an amazement. We can sacrifice the videos section until your a millionaire:). Just don't feel safe uploading things like this to youtube or anything like that and none of you should either.

An option is for people that like to upload videos, give them more space for a payment. But not sure if that works. Because the mebbers that have videos have to pay for uploading them.

Why dont we just link them to youtube? Its really fast and easy.

I'm not sure I understand why anyone would want to make a video of a plant that only moves an inch a day.

A simple photo shows anything that's necessary. Zoom in using a photo.

Photo size: 50K

Video size: 2 Megs

What exactly would the benifit of a video be? A moving video of a non-moving plant?

You guys are losing me here.

I know, I know!

Every time you link from this site to another, you increase the chances of importing a virus or malicious script onto this site. To create an area that spawned hundreds of hits to another site every day would be crazy.

If at all possible, we like to keep everything concerning this site, on this site.

Also, I still don't understand why someone would want to take a motion video of something that doesn't have any motion. Pictures work very well.

Well, actually there are some nice free videos online which could help some people understanding growing more easily. I haven't search that good yet but here's an example of a growing video on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuOTnI34vCc

It's quite cool to see how everything is be done. It's just a example, i haven't watched the video because the internet here in Vnam is too slow to load it.

But i remember some really nice videos online that makes growing for beginners easier to understand.

But agree with stoney that making your own videos of plants is a bit stupid, or you should make a complete documantary of your grow and show it step by step, but that's not easy to do i guess.

Anyway, maybe we could open up a forum with good links to growing videos online. That's not a bad idea. Yes we will send visitors away from this site but i'm sure they will come back for more info when they see we give out good information.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
