so, just out of curiosity. Leaving a vegging plant intact, if you cut one of the stems, dipped it in rooting hormone and stuck it face down in the dirt would it root and become another root system? Would this cause problems with nutrient/water flow in the plant?

I'm not sure if I understand you completely but I think your describing "Tip Layering"
To answer your question Quote:
I dont believe that Layering a plant correctly would have any negative impact on the parent plant. Layering is an easy way to propagate new plants from a parent plant. There are six common types of layering these being air simple tip trench serpentine mound The principle of layering is to encourage the development of new roots on a stem while it is still attached to the parent plant. The rooted stem can then be detached from the parent plant. Some trees are naturally prone to "simple layering" the Holly tree being one of them, where weeping branches are in prolonged contact with the ground it is relatively common for these branches to root. The bramble bush will also easily propagate with the "simple" or "tip" method, as will the raspberry. I have read of people propagating there cannabis using the "simple" layering method. However Cannabis propagates so freely and easily from taking cuttings I see no need to use the layering methods except for curiosity.

Thanks MF, that is exactly what I was trying to describe. I may have to try it on my next grow just for the sake of it.
