What was used to get that effect in the 2nd and 3rd picture above on the handle area (the area in the 3rd picture). Is it dichroic glass?

GMO: Thats an opal ! good spottin ! Yes we can use real opals but there are synthetics ones that are a bit cheaper...lol

OR are you refering to the honey comb design ? Its made from coiling all color and blowing it out into a ball and you then add "dots" for the honeycomb pattern / melt and add more dots to further deepen (sp) the pattern. His color choce here is amber...
GMO: or are you refering to the fume spiral shield ? The 3rd picture ,Thats created with gold and silver fume and imploded.

DUCK: Nope there a niche market for that already . I have a small market to myself here due to the wineries buying my bottle stoppers ! Currently gearing up for a show at a local winery for U of W ! ~

Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming or some other state that starts with a 'W' that I can't get my brain around right now

Okay peeps next venture for this thread is main youre ( well....) pipe ! Actually i've been fortunate in my teaching that ALL students with me leanin over their shoulder made their own ! The first is a basic wrap and rake pipe shaped into a spoon shape.

* Some quick terminology over view :
Trailing; this is where you have some color on a punty and by heating the end of it into a ball. At this point you should have also been pre-warming youre "blank" and attaching it and "trailing" color around the circumfrance.

*Fuming; ( You should have excellent ventilation anytime you use hvy metals such as gold or silver.) Heat a punty , you "pick up " the sample of (gold) in this case. this can now be heated in a small flame ( nuetral flame) and turned into "fume" by introducing it into the flame and watch for the "fume" .

*Raking ; This where you are still spinning that blank with fume, color trailing, and now raking. By selecting a point on one end you will draw a line down the length of the tube. Here it is important to a apply the flame to both where it heats the blank and adding melting clear.
