glight, marijuana needs an amount of light per/square foot of growing plant canopy.

This means the area in square feet of the entire surface of the tops of the plants.

If your grow area of plants is 5 feet long and 5 feet across, then you multiply the length times the width.

5 feet x 5 feet = 25 square feet.

Each square foot needs at least 3,000 lumens of light and can use as much as 6,000 lumens per/square foot.

Your 250 watt light is either a HPS or a Metal Halide so the average number of lumens for that type of light is:

250 watt HPS = 28,500 lumens total at one foot above plants.

250 watt MH = 22,000 lumens total at one foot above plants.

28,500 divided by 3,000 lumens is 9.5 square feet maximum plant canopy.
28,500 divided by 6,000 lumens is 4.75 square feet with maxed lumens.

This means that if you use a 250 watt HPS, you can cover a 2.5 foot by 2.5 foot area of plants and have 6,000 lumens per/sq/ft.

So in closing, yes, you can grow MJ with a 250 watt HPS for the entire crop. However, if you use a MH for vegging, you'll need to also have an HPS for flowering.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good luck.
