Default question please

We lost everything on our computer last week. I lost all my pictures. I was glad they were saved here, but where do i find all my pictures. I am straight right now so that may be the problem, but I need to find all my old pot pics.

I will smoke a bowl and see if that makes me figure it out...but till then, help?

.

I don't know web-sights but I know PC's fairly well.

How do you know all the info is lost off the hard drive?
It's rare hard drives corrupt (or break) beyond someone with a little hardware and knowledge being able to retrieve the info off it.

what's the PC doing?

Rose...on the left hand side click User Cp>Scroll to bottom and last link on the left says attachments>click that and it should list every picture you have uploaded to MP.

I agree with Joe. Data can be saved from crashed computers. All you need is a USB kit and you can just hook up the old hard drive to your new computer via USB and sometimes you can still look onto the hard drive and retrieve files from it. I just had my computer crash as well 2 weeks ago and I lost a lot of the Music I have recorded. Unfortunately for me it was a Hard Drive error and I was unable to access any files.

Thank you Hammy, so much. There they all are.

Joe, thanks for your thoughts. I left the computer on one night and the next morning it was black. Couldn't start it, not even in dos. It was dead dead. Our son came with his external hard drive but nothing could be saved. It just wouldn't let him save it. It was toast. I know not of what I speak on computers. I just use um.

Thank you so much.

From what you said happened, I would bet that all your data is recoverable.

If you're interested, let me know and I can walk you through a couple things.

The first thing I would ask is.... Turn the power switch off and then on. Does the fan on the power supply go on?

Hey Hackerman. Not to high jack Rose's thread but I would love to see if I could get the music files off of my crashed Hard Drive. Maybe you could give both Rose, myself and anybody else interested a quick tutorial of sorts? I have one of those Kits with the adapter for different types of drives that connects to my computer via USB.

That's really all you need. Pull the hard drive, put it in the adapter and plug the USB into a good computer. Should pop up under My Computer just like a thumb drive.

Rose, laptop or desktop?

Desk top and I am ok I think. I think most all of my pic's that were important, my kids have. At least I know my son does.

I sure appreciate the offer though Hackerman. I will let you know if I decide to try and do that. Thanks again.

No problem. It sounds like simple power supply failure (especially if it's a Dell computer). The computer can probably be back to new with 4 screws and 3 plugs.

If you want to test the power supply, all you need is a voltmeter and a small piece of wire for a jumper. Pretty simple test and a cheap fix (about $50 for a new power supply).

Glad to help if you need it.

Hammy, yours a lappy or desktop?

The computer that just went down is a PC desktop. Windows 8.1.
I am pretty sure my hard Drive went bad. It started acting weird so i started gathering the files I wanted to save and then one restart later it booted to a Dos like screen that said something about a hard drive failure. I tried using my USB kit to hook it up as an external drive on my new PC but it shows up on my system but won't let me access any files. I will try again this weekend and screen cap the error messages.

Sure sounds like a hard drive fail. Capture that screen and we'll see what's up.

Make sure all the cables are plugged in tight.

I'll see what kind of file recovery apps I have.
