House could vote on medical marijuana registration bill: Oregon Legislature today

Both chambers are scheduled to vote today on several budget bills and legislation creating task forces. The House could also get to vote on legislation authorizing the state to establish a registration system for medical marijuana.

House Bill 3460 was approved by the Ways and Means Committee last week, on a 13-2 vote among House members and 6-5 vote among Senate members. Legislative fiscal estimates about $800,000 in registration money from grow facilities would finance the office within the Oregon Health Authority in 2013-15.

The system would be operative March 2014.

Voters approved the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes in 1998 but the state has been reluctant to take control, leaving grey areas ripe for exploitation, The Oregonian has found.

In Senate Rules, the agenda includes House Bill 2672, which would establish certain workplace protections for domestic workers. The House narrowly approved the bill.

In a Ways and Means subcommittee, members could take up a public housing bill sponsored by House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland. House Bill 2639 seeks to end discrimination against renters who have Section 8 public housing vouchers.

The Legislature is expected to close its 2013 session soon.
