I don't know about European power companies but here in the US, the power companies/law enforcement don't monitor power usage. You could have your electric bill jump to 4x as much in one month and if you pay the bill on time they won't even call you and ask if everything is ok. They figure that if you see the bill and pay it without question then you know what is happening and aren't concerned.

Hushpuppy-
In Canada they monitor and report your bill. At least in the greater Vancouver area. It actually gives them "cause" to come inspect your house with cops and fireman!!!

I pay about =185.00 USD per week for electric right now. Can't wait to get off the grid.

I live in Canada, and in no way does that happen around here.

Here in FL they monitor people's power usage and if it spikes really high in a 2-4 month perior of time then they can call and see what's going on. I'm ready to put in a solar panel system to lower the cost... I pay $400+ a month without the grow lights now I'm wondering what it will be when I get up and running.

you said £ - pounds not $ dollars ... so im guessing your in the UK , as long as you pay your bill on time or buy DD don't worry about it
uk power company's don't monitor anything..so i think you will be fine . ( tip - phone them up and get a free moniter)

i peak at 1800 K/watt a day when everything on ... and my bill is about £170 a month ...so if your £100 a week .. that's some big grow you got there

good luck

dman1234- They do it in Canada.
Richmond BC has a rule as does Surrey and Burnaby.
We actually fought the whole implementation in City hall in 2009 with City Council. We were able to get it delayed, and now the cop stands on the corner instead of in your front yard. BUT they still do it.
They are wrong more than 50% of the time and it costs several thousand dollars each time they check out a house. IF they find any sort of violation (swimming pool pump not wired properly, spa tub or whatever) then they fine you AND you have to get it fixed and pay several grand for re-inspection.

The call it the ESFI - Electrical Fire Safety Inspection
Google this if you want more : richmond bc efsi :

Hush- we MOVED far away. If your question was how to get around inspection. Especially after we came home after being away for 2 months and they had installed smart meters without our permission.
Electric = 50% of rent.

No such problems here in midwestern US that I have heard of. I have a small 400 watt grow so my electrical usage is not that abnormal for a home.

The power company there in BC must be run by the State. Gotta love the heavy hand of Socialism

I think we're fucked here once it's legal, guv will stamp us out, US stats already show 80% illegal is gone.

I can't reply today, error message says my responses are too short
haha that's rich, I never shut up

I'd be afraid of drawing attention to myself asking for the old one back, GH

Zig, if you have one and are in Canada, expect the crackdown as soon as the assholes legalize it next year and confine the growing to their buddies for the kickbacks.

Politicians are indistinguishable from actors now. They're whores, simple as that and we've always known cops have the best pot. You think these shameless two-faced bastards will tolerate ANY competition?
The guise will be to protect YOUTH from the evil neighbourhood grower, prepare to be stigmatized, the masters of propaganda are at work.

And with these metres, we'll stick out like sore thumbs. I get emails now from my friendly electrical company telling me I'm using twice as much power as my neighbours, have too many things "on all the time" and time of use graphs that scream 12/12. Not too hard to figure out I live alone at about the poverty level. Call me paranoid but I'm working on a wee solar power system :-)

thanks for the opening, Zigggy, negativity isn't tolerated anywhere anymore and I just had to get that off my chest
