I am new to growing. I am only looking to start small maybe 4-5 plants, and dont want a huge investment in this at the moment. I have been trying to grow with some seeds i got from some decent commercial dope I bought but out of the 30 seeds I tried only one germinated. Then to make things worse I planted the damn thing upside down. :hairpull: Well no wonder after 4 days nothing was happening. I flipped it over but I am skeptical.

I am interested in buying some seeds that are fairly easy to grow as this will pretty much be my first time and I know nothing. any suggestions as to a fairly cheap easy to grow strain and where to find?

Any help would be appreciated.

as far as easy to grow, commercialised strains like Northern Lights, Power Plant, etc.

go to the DIY section and check out the "quad cfl" for growing on the cheap.

IMHO....i would save your money and not start until you can afford an HID lamp.

You can get a 400W HPS (HID) light for 105 bucks at www.HTGSupply.com. Just tell them you want the ebay price but shipped direct from their store with other items that you may need, like rockwool, or netpots if your going to go hydro. I recommend hydro but....... Your light is a very important investment as far as your results will be concerned. It is also an easy place to drop a lot of money. When you start "cheap", it will cost you more in the longrun as you will be constantly "UPGRADING". Spend a little more up front and you will be far ahead in savings and results.

out of 30seeds 1germinated!!!you must be doing something wrong.. the simpliest method:just 2 plates w/ the moist paper towel between and some seeds,do some read at germination section-lots of info there
 
That is exactly what I did. I think maybe they were old. Anyway, If at first you dont succeed..... and all that crap. I will not give up.

*UPDATE*
I finally got a couple seeds to germ, planted them last night around 8:00 and today there have already broke ground! I don't want to sound all existential or anything but I JUST CREATED LIFE!! TA DA! lol

Anyway I am pretty stoked. will keep everyone updated.

NO man, you dont do that here... in case you havent reaad the rules this is a big NONO here you definitely cant be trying to hook up with anyone on this site, no disrespec meant but specially with some 1 who just started posting on this forum.. once again i dont mean any disrespect, its just STRONGLY encouraged not to do that for the sfety of us the members and the site..:aok:
 
Did u check if they were good seeds? i germ'd mine in a paper towel inside of a ziplock. worked fine fr me. and as far as lights and ****, i got the grow lights and ballasts from wal mart. not a hps by far but you do what you can with what u got. and for 10 days old i thought my plants looked great! anyways good luck!
 
'Sup guys :ciao: I used to use papertowel method. Now i put 3/4 cup water with 10-20 ml of H2O2, Hydrogen peroxide, in a cup with the beans u are germinating. The H2O2 ensures they wont suffer from oxygen deprivation. Put in a dark warm place and check on them in 12 hours. Most time i have a few that would have already cracked and showing a taproot. The ones that havent cracked, i just take a razor blade or use tweezers and gently crack it along the seam neat the tip. Return them to the water and a warm spot. 12 to 24 hours later, you should have taproots that are 1/4 inch long, and some of them would have lost their helmets. Ive gotten 100% germination so far. Only risk i take removing them from water to plant them is droping it on floor. No need to worry about tearing taproot or the itty bitty micro roots we cat see. just my 0.02 on germinating. peace, e :bong2:
 
Interesting eyesliekdonuts.. I read about soaking them, but I just put the seed in rock wool the correct way and water daily and BAM, up the come. The papertowel method always gave me trouble. I don't recommend it. I may try that with my new seeds my buddy got me.
 
dude, i took a bunch of seeds from my friends thousands he has collected from schwag over the years, and just threw about 20 in a few towels folded over themselves and soaked with water. i didnt even keep em in the dark - i used a 60w incandescent bulb to keep them warm, and i'd say that about 18 of them germinated on their own. One seed i had i got the night before in a bag of northern lights, but as you can see in my other post ( http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18819 ) it didnt germinate, so like eyeslikedonuts, i had to do some surgery. Three times in fact. but from the sounds of it, your seeds were bad. but it did take some seeds 3 days to pop their shells. you gotta make sure the seeds dont dry out at all...i kept the towel pretty soaked all the time. better luck next time i guess...
 
Well, I am pretty sure I figured out what I was doing wrong. I had them just on a plate in a cabinet in the kitchen, figuring dark was good. But my kitchen cabinets are on an outside wall and it's been getting into te 30's. I moved them after the 2 germed to the top of the stove. I put a plate on top as well to keep them dark and Set a pot of water on the burner on low just to get the stove top warm, not hot, just warm. Within an hour you could feel the plates were warm so I turned off the stove and went to bed. Next day (yesterday) I came home from work and not only were my 2 germed seeds already breaking ground, but the other seeds on the stove have almost all popped there shells. A couple had at least 1" taproot. so turns out I needed some warmth. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the advice, but I think you mis-read me for being serious. Did you read the post before mine? I was just replying to it with a joke. If anyone on here thought I was being serious I apologize, but ya need to lighten up. I never mentioned where I live or asked him/her any personal info. I know pot smokers are a paranoid bunch, but chill out a little. Also not dis-respect intended.
