I am growing outdoors for the second time, my plant is getting pretty big and has been growing for a good two months. I feel like i should be seeing pre flowers by now so i can tell the sex of my plant. Where the pre flowers should be coming up there are instead new leaves, almost like its going to make more stems. Is this normal? Maybe its just not pre flower time or has something gone wrong? I dont know what to make of it.

Hi Mbberry! Welcome to our site. You described what you are seeing just right. Do you have alternating leave nodes? The plants don't show sex until they are mature and they aren't mature until the start having alternate nodes.

Here is a pic of what i mean.View attachment ultranating nodes.jpg

Im not sure, ive just been going on how old the plant is, i e never read that about the alternating nodes. Ill check but i dont think it does. Im assuming they will start to alternate from the top tho right? Then once it starts growing like that i can start looking for the pre flowers?

Well on the main stem they arent alternating but on the smaller secondary stems they are somewhat

Sounds like they aren't quit ready yet... Join me in looking every day at a couple of mine.. it is madening.

Well i just went out to look at it a little closer, i had a magnifying glass lol, but i think im seeing the very beginning of the pre flowers they are just so small. They might have even just popped up today. What is your views on fertilzing as they go from veg to flowering?

Your looking for 2 hairs to come out of the preflower.

When growing plants outdoors, it is not really the age of the plant that determines when it starts flowering. Outdoors, the plant flowers in response to the days getting shorter. It is not unusual for plants to not be showing preflowers yet....but it should be happening any time now. It has been over 3 weeks since the summer solstice, so any time now.

Did you plant fem seeds or do you need to sex your plant?
