I am quite enthralled with aquaponics. Thanks for sharing.

Nice man, thanks for that.

Wish there were paying mantids too though, :p

The video sopappy posted, is of my praying mantis, from my youtube channel.

Very nice setup and awesome thread. I'll have to check out your vids.

Fish only supply the Nitrogen, and all large fruiting plants need a full spectrum of nutrients; some come from the fish feed, but many require you to supplement like iron.

I don't use conventional nutrient pre-mixes.
I do use:
-"City" Tap Water (+8.1pH and up, no RO filter)
-Organic Fish Feed (Aquaorganic brand)
-FeEDDHA or FeDTPA (iron)
-Organic Rock Phosphate
-Organic Potassium Sulfate
-OMRI Calcium Sulfate
-Food grade Magnesium Sulfate
-Organic Silica
-Borax Soap
-Worm Castings

I also modified my system to include hardware to add small amounts of nutrients, as man does on nature.
Things I've use in my plumbing:
-Copper PEX crimp ring (Copper)
-Galvanized Steel couplings (Zinc)

And only in emergencies...
-Muriatic Acid (pH down)
-Phosphoric Acid (pH down)
-Potassium Hydroxide (pH up)

Target chemistry:

pH: 6.4-6.8
(NH4)Ammonia: 0.0ppm
(NO2)Nitrites: 0.0ppm
(NO3)Nitrates: 20-50ppm
(PO4)Phosphate: 15-50ppm
(K)Potassium: 50-200ppm
(Ca)Calcium: 25-150ppm
(Mg)Magnesium: 10-50ppm
(S)Sulfur: 15-50ppm
(Fe)Iron (Fe): 1-3ppm
(B)Boron: 0.1-0.5ppm
(Mn)Manganese: 0.5-1.0ppms
(Z)Zinc: 0.25-0.3ppms
(Mo)Molybdenum: 0.01-0.02ppms
(C)Copper: 0.025-0.05ppms
(Si)Silica: 120-150ppm
(Co)Cobalt: 0.20-0.30ppm
(Cl)Chloride: 50-110ppm

I use different methods from, Hanna's colourimeters to API & Salifert testers and Bluelab's EC meters. Hach and LaMotte also make some good equipment. My nutrients have wide spreads because of the timing involved in each grow; and of course trade secrets ;)

GREAT THREAD---gotta be a bit of a mad scientist to keep your system in tune---very interesting stuff---thanks for sharing---i be following

First of all this is a really exciting thread and goodluck in your grow. I discovered the proccess of apuaponics a year ago and now i'm planning to make a small system but i need more infos about that. If u dont mind i need your help with some infos. I'm also reading an intresting book for small and large systems. Any info for making a small system would help.

Thank man :)

I actually started a couple of years back, in an earlier version of this system.
Here's my aero-aqua (no soil) back in 2015 and January 2016:

No problem man. How can I help?

yep---based on the looks of those roots alone---i would call that pretty successful---please share more about the feeding schedule for the plants---what are you supplementing the fish crap with for veg and flower

I use just what is listed in post #27, above. About once a week, I test the nutrients, and add what's needed. :)

Dumme do u test anything instead of PH regularly? And is there anything hard about this process?

Yes, I generally test weekly, unless there's a problem and then daily or as needed. Each nutrient is tested individually, but some tests are required more frequently. I'm hoping I've have a video up soon of the entire process.

That would really help me if u dont mind and thank u :)

I have a lot going on, but I'll post that ASAP. It's basically the same with all the tests. Until then, this is the gist of it:

In the first plant, you can see where I was rough when I pulled a branch off, low on the stem, but there's no stem rot luckily.

The first three are Green Crack and the last is an old AK-48 clone.

Not my best grow, but I'm loving these Cree COB's :joint4:

1 x 300watt light = 435 grams @ ~1.45gpw
