Fire DEA Head Chuck Rosenberg for Calling Medical Marijuana A ”Joke”

Tom Angell and the Marijuana Majority organization started a petition today calling for the termination of employment for DEA Chief Chuck Rosenberg. The petition was in reaction to Mr. Rosenberg’s recent comments that referred to medical marijuana as a “joke.” I’m encouraging everyone to sign it. Below is the language of the petition, which can be signed at this link here:

Chuck Rosenberg, acting head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) just made highly offensive comments calling medical marijuana a “joke.”

While it’s nothing new for drug war bureaucrats to oppose enacting sensible marijuana policies, Rosenberg’s comments go way too far.

Medical marijuana is not a “joke” to the millions of seriously ill patients in a growing numbers of states who use it legally in accordance with doctors’ recommendations.

It is not a “joke” to the growing number of prominent medical organizations — American Nurses Association, American College of Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, for example — who know that cannabis has real and proven medical benefits.

And it’s not a “joke” to the clear majority of U.S voters who support passing laws to protect medical marijuana patients from harassment by police and the DEA.

President Obama should fire Chuck Rosenberg and appoint a new DEA administrator who will respect science, medicine, patients and voters.

Marijuana Majority

Nov 11, 2015 — So far, more than 15,000 people have signed the petition demanding that DEA head Chuck Rosenberg be fired for calling medical marijuana a "joke."

And guess what? The DEA is officially on notice now.

When a Washington Post reporter called the agency about our efforts, a spokesman was forced to defend his boss's outrageous comments:

"Acting Administrator Rosenberg indicated that marijuana should be subject to the same levels of approval and scrutiny as any other substance intended for use as a medicine," he said. "DEA supports efforts to research potential medical uses of marijuana."

That sounds nice, but the reality is that people suffering from cancer, AIDS and multiple sclerosis don't have 5-10 years for the federal government to slow-walk marijuana through the FDA approval process.

They are suffering right now, and in 23 states they are able to legally use doctor-recommended cannabis to find relief.

That's no "joke."

So let's keep up the pressure on behalf of the patients who need our help.

Please share the petition with your friends via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail:

We've already got the DEA's attention. By generating more signatures, we can push this up the chain of command to the White House and pressure President Obama to take action.

It is amazing Joe. And a little scary when the folks pushing the buttons can be cray cray.

Internet activism is a powerful and easy tool for making our voices heard.

I often use this web page to do so and I hope many of you will as well.
