Hey all,

Trying to germinate 8 Red Cayenne Pepper seeds tonight. I started 8 because I am not sure how many are going to pop...as long as at least one sprouts I will be happy. The seeds are tiny!

I have no idea how to grow this plant...all I know is that it has an 80 day lifespan...or so the package says.

I am curious how to grow this plant, I have tried to look up how to grow this pepper indoors and came up with zilch on the subject...so, any input on how to treat this plant to a light cycle will be extremely helpful. I plan on starting the seeds under 24 hours of light until i figure out the right light regimen for the plant. Im guessing since it is a fruiting plant that a 24 hour then into a 12/12 will probably work...much research to do!

I will most likely be doing this grow under a 10,000 lumen grow light for the entire grow. Hey! Bite sized fruits right!

Once again any info on how to grow this plant indoors will be greatly appreciated!

Peace!

Here are the cayennes in the negative days...I start day 1 when all plants have sprouted.

I hope they all sprout, but will be happy if just one sprouts.

I sure do miss the mary-j grow journal scene, but I love gardening in general so this is why I am here starting a cayenne pepper grow journal.

I hope you guys tune in for the learning experience as I have no idea how to handle this plant.

I am currently going to give the plants 24 hours of light, because I am sure this will work until i can induce the fruiting stage of the plant.

Boring pic, but lets hope together that these babies sprout!

I Googled "germinating cayenne peppers" and got 43,700 results. On just the first page, there were several on germinating and growing peppers.
Where did you look?

I did a yahoo search...and found only growing outdoors. There is a book I am thinking of buying which is like the marijuana grow bible except it is for growing many plants indoors.

Whats up JJ. Look foward to watching these hot babies grown indoors. Here's some GREEN MOJO to get them going. ;)

You'll find that it's easy. The goal is to fool the plant into thinking it's outside. Inside, you're just trying to duplicate outside conditions.

Lights = sun

water = rain

nutrients = natural soil components

fan = wind

Inside gives you extra benifits. No pests that can't be dealt with easily. Topping, LST, (Yes, both of these work great with inside plants other than MJ).

Good luck man. Try not to make it more than it is.

It's simple.

I've had a cayenne on my window sill since september. It didn't grow much until around february but then i took off. It's i a relatively small pot so i not at tree but it's starting to set fruit now. It gets around 5 hours of direct sunlight/day and indirect for about 8. Photoperiod dosn't really matter with peppers as they start to flower when they are mature and there's enough ligh and heat. I've heard that 16/8 or 18/6 should be optimal for indoor growing but i havn't confirmed this. Light spectrum should be the same for peppers as for mj. Just switch spectrum when the first flowers appear. Also peppers as self-pollinating, meaning that normally you don't have to do anything to get them to set fruit but in my expeirience of growing in a windowsill with no wind or insects you have to shake the plant lightly or use a small artists brush to pollinate. Otherwise the flowers will just drop after about 3-5 days without setting fruit. If you use a fan then it shouldn't be a problem.
There's a pepper growing forum here http://www.thehotpepper.com/forumdisplay.php?f=108 if you need more info on the subject.

Man! That's lousy luck man.

I've been told by pepper growers that the "Paper Towel" method of germinating works very well with pepper seeds.

I've just ordered a bunch of different varieties from no heat to max heat. When my seeds get here, I'll let you know how they do. I'm going to try half in peat pellets and half in paper towels. I've been told that they should be just under the surface of the peat and that they should germinate in under 10 days.

We'll see.

Don't give up man! Good luck to you!!!!

I bought some japapenos and 5 out of 6 came up within 3 weeks. My boyfriend bought some chilli peppers (lantern) and 2 of 4 of those are up and they took about 2-3 weeks too.

May i just say I was just browsing the other threads in this section and the salvia one.. yes this site is marijuanapassion but you allow all these other legal plants to be talked about. Hey Cananga Odorata is a very strong aphrodisiac but its all good. lmfao

Have they still not come up? give them another week or so, as you never know.

:rolleyes: lol nice one

I wouldn't give up on the beans yet. I haven't done Cayenne but I have done Jalapenos, they start slow IMO inside. However once they get going they get going LOL. I used a mix of Light Warrior and Ocean Mix and after a bit I introduced some nutes (Botanicare Pure Blend). I noticed they seem to like a lot of heat, high 70's was where I saw growth really take off. I put them outside a week agao and I have peppers almost ready to be picked already....yay!!!! Strted back in January, they are quite large now. Not sure how similar Cayenne is to Jalapenos but I know a lot of the peppers like to be pinched off, meaning like a topping. Good luck, you should maybe try some herbs if you want to do another type of seeds, herbs are great IMO and can be really nice to grow and smell. Good luck!!!
