Government Survey Confirms: Our Laws Steer Americans Toward Alcohol Use
The findings of the 2005 National Survey on Drug Use and Health released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services simply underscore what we have been saying all along: Our nation's laws are driving people to drink. Tobacco kills 450,000 Americans per year, alcohol 125,000, and marijuana 0. Yet 12 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana charges since 1970, with many going to jail and losing their cars, homes and even custody of their children. If you don't think children can see through the hypocrisy of this "message," you are seriously out of touch with the intellectual prowess of children.
Marijuana prohibition is a counterproductive fraud. It is an intellectually bankrupt policy that is causing far more harm than legalized marijuana ever could.
That is why we want another Hempfest!

State's cash crop has many sensible uses
Since marijuana is now the No. 8 cash crop in the state, the time has come to legalize this beneficial herb.
It helps the sick and anything that can be made of wood, plastic or oil can be made of hemp. You could even save the trees by printing the newspaper on hemp.
The government had better realize this before they are overgrown.

Failed policies are a waste of tax money
Taxing and regulating marijuana, the most popular illicit drug, is a cost-effective alternative to a never-ending drug war.
As long as marijuana distribution remains in the hands of organized crime, consumers will continue to come into contact with sellers of hard drugs. This gateway is the direct result of a fundamentally flawed policy.
Given that marijuana is arguably safer than legal alcohol – the plant has never been shown to cause an overdose death – it makes no sense to waste tax dollars on failed policies that finance organized crime and facilitate the use of hard drugs.
