Marijuana can prevent cancer, not cause it The Office of National Drug Control Policy has been spending millions of taxpayer dollars on advertisements and printed material declaring that marijuana causes cancer. The truth is just the opposite - marijuana can prevent cancer. Recent research has shown that the cannabinoids found in marijuana can not only halt the spread of cancer but can also kill cancer cells.
A study conducted in 2005 by Dr. Donald Tashkin at the UCLA School of Medicine demonstrated that people who smoke marijuana are at less risk of developing lung cancer than tobacco smokers.
The study of 2,200 people in Los Angeles found that even heavy marijuana smokers were no more likely to develop lung, head or neck cancer than non-users. In comparison, tobacco users' risk of cancer increases the more they smoke.
Data in Dr. Tashkin's study suggest that people who smoke marijuana are less likely to develop lung cancer than people who do not smoke anything at all. Since marijuana smoke contains the same cancer-causing agents as tobacco and the only difference between the nonsmokers and the marijuana smokers was their use of cannabis, then it is not an unreasonable hypothesis that marijuana can prevent the development of cancer.

In 2003, Dr. Manual Guzman at the Complutense University in Madrid Spain published a research paper entitled Cannabinoids: Potential Anticancer Agents. Dr. Guzman's research on the brains of laboratory rats found that the cannabinoids in cannabis inhibit tumor growth and are selective antitumor compounds, as they can kill tumor cells without affecting noncancerous cells.

Investigators at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health reported in January 2008 that the administration of cannabinoids halts the spread of a wide range of cancers, including brain cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer, pancreatic cancer, and lymphoma. The report noted that cannabis offer significant advantages over standard chemotherapy treatments because the cannabinoids in cannabis are both non-toxic and can uniquely target malignant cells while ignoring healthy ones.

Is the evidence incontrovertible that cannabis can inhibit the spread of cancer, kill cancer cells and prevent the development of cancer?

No it is not - but doctors are telling millions of people to spend billions of dollars and ingest all kinds of supplements on way less evidence than there is to support the anti-cancer properties of cannabis.

When taking any kind of medicine or supplement, a person needs to decide if the claimed benefits of a product outweigh the risks. Many times the answer is no.

Cannabis is not one of these products, as there has never been a single death attributed to cannabis or any other significant debilitating consequences.

Further, the vast majority of cannabis users report numerous beneficial effects.

If cannabis can prevent the development of cancer, then the appropriate ingestion of cannabis is desirable in the same way that the appropriate ingestion of calcium supplements can prevent or at least delay the onset of osteoporosis. Since for the vast majority of people, cannabis has no negative side effects and only beneficial effects, it would seem that the regular appropriate ingestion of cannabis as a cancer preventative agent would be a prudent course of action.

You mention Dr. Tashkin, he is a good one cause he used to be on the other side. Meaning he first reported that it caused cancer and has since "changed" his mind. Also it might be too late IMO, they are studying the cannibinoids that supposedly don't help at a fevered pace right now. If you go to norml you will see how many studies are being conducted right now on cannibinoids, it's a larger number, much larger than it was a few years ago. The catch here is that Pharma is going to be getting first dibs in my mind, meaning our poor plant is going to probably get left out again. I have also read that it almost impossible or rather that it is impossible for a synthesized cannibinoid to simulate the real thing. The plant is the only way to get this done in most experts minds, and IMO nature is always more effective thatn some synthesized crap like Marinol.

Good post BTW. I've been going through anti drug sites and almost everyone of them has a scandal, I have a feeling if more people actually spent some time looking they might be saying whoa hold on a second,"these Nazi's talk to my children at school".

Here's one for you, the dfaf.org (Drug Free America Foundation) has recently been outed as intimidating big business into not carrying hemp type products, I called them recently to obtain a list of donors and was denied. When I did a google on them I discovered they used to be called Straight Inc. which was shutdown after allegations of rape, torture, brainwashing, and 40 suicides. They closed down and reopened as Drug Free America Foundation and the guys wife is in charge now, but they are EVIL IMO, they have a page on their site called "excuse marijuana" it's their words for medical marijuana on their own page. We are actually taking advantage of sick people or so they claim. Now we all know who really takes advantage of the sick and it's not us growers or smokers HINT HINT.

Anyone who is interested please call them or write them, there is nothing wrong IMO with bothering these people, THEY LIE and you reap what you sow. And personally cancer has devastated my family and I am tired of doing nothing even if it's just being a thorn in someone's side. Plus we don't have millions or rather billions to spend to fight these liars but we can make sure that anyone on the fence about the drug issue knows the truth by spreading the word on the net and to our family and friends.

hxxp://dfaf.org/marijuana/excuse.php -anti medical marijuana page known as Excuse Marijuana to them.

hxxp://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Mel_Sembler -look at the list on this clown, and also check out what they are accused of, he no longer runs any anti drug organization but his wife does HINT HINT. And yes these people talk to education centers IMO they must be stopped.

ere's what Tashkin said about 10 years ago before he was convinced otherwise

Donald P. Tashkin, MD, Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, stated in his Mar. 1997 article for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention; Effects of Marijuana on the Lung and Its Immune Defenses:

"Analysis of the smoke contents of marijuana and tobacco reveals much the same gas phase constituents, including chemicals known to be toxic to respiratory tissue.[...] With regard to the carcinogenic potential of marijuana, it is noteworthy that the tar phase of marijuana smoke contains many of the same carcinogenic compounds contained in tobacco smoke, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benz[a]pyrene, which was recently identified as a key factor promoting human lung cancer."
